One Word 2017 & can anybody tell me what happened to my turnip greens?

screenshot_2017-01-02-10-10-13-12017 is here! As in right here. Right now.  I wanted to take this time to share with you my “One Word” for 2017. I gave this a little thought. Not a lot because it just kinda came to me this year. With all the crazy happenings we have had going on in 2016, I learned I have to really trust in the Lord. So, there was no question, y’all:

Trust was my One Word.

I wanted to be sure I kept the Lord’s goodness & care in the forefront of my mind. So now, every day, every chance I get, I will be remembering to trust the Lord. I am going to commit some scripture to memory, that has to do with this glorious trust.

Trust the Lord with all your heart. And lean not on your own understanding: In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. (NKJV)

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord, and do good: Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.(NKJV)

Psalm 37:3

Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. (NKJV)

Psalm 37: 5

I am so excited for 2017! And what happens on New Year’s Day? We eat of course! Y’all my Mamaw always made sure we had hog’s jowl, to be healthy, black eyed peas, for luck, & greens for money. I always make sure my kid and grandkids know the same important rules for new year. You have to eat all of this to have a good year. They sorta look at the hog’s jowl sideways, but they are always in on the other mandatory dishes.  I cooked turnip greens, per my usual. Normally, they are really good. But, goodness gracious they were bitter & just didn’t have the taste they typically do. The only thing I did different was I forgot to drain them once they came to a boil. And I cut up all of the greens together, stalks and all. Would that have made that big of a difference? Y’all I need some help. My sweet honey and me have gone over & over what might have happened. Any comments are more than welcome, I do not want to have my Mama Boyce’s & Mamaw’s honor in question for any longer. Lord, they wouldn’t be too thrilled about this.

I hope and pray y’all have a blessed new year. Do you have a one word resolution, like me? I’d love to hear about it. I have to be going now, because I should be washing clothes.

Well, better late than never – November Scripture Writing Plan & guess what day it is?

Well, better late than never, y’all.  This is the November Scripture Writing Plan.  I am sorry it’s late.  I hope you are having a blessed month.  Thanksgiving is this month & Christmas is right around the corner.  Where has 2016 gone to?  That guy has been moving like lightning here lately.

november-scripture-writing-plan-englishShannon over at Sweet Blessings, lets me share this with y’all every month. I am so thankful for her sweet heart!

Also, today is Miss Neenee’s 13th birthday!  Just this morning, my brother said,

“She’s a teenager now, ain’t she?”

With that, I started gasping for air & curling up in the fetal position, because y’all.  This is my baby.  It seems just like yesterday she was wearing pigtails to kindergarten.  And now, BOOM! another teenager rallying through the ranks.  Peace be still.

Until next time, I will be going, because I should be washing clothes.

I’m praying for you & astounding & unknown facts about tigers

praying

Doesn’t it feel wonderful when someone tells you they are praying for you? I know personally, it just makes me feel all happy inside.  Kinda like I just ate a big plate of chocolate gravy & biscuits.  Other folks caring about us is essential in life.  Going to the Lord, on our behalf, is a terrific way to show us how much we are thought of.  When someone prays for another, it’s like a whole other avenue is opened up.  Not only are our own prayers being laid at the Lord’s feet, He is hearing from others about us, too.  What a blessing to have others to pray for us.

But what if you have a struggle no one else knows about? Do you know we have Someone else praying for us, too?

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us[a] with groanings which cannot be uttered. (NKJV)

Romans 8:34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. (NKJV)

Dictonary.com defines interceding as an interposing or pleading on behalf of another person.praying-i

Jesus is pleading to God for us, also. He knows what it’s like to feel alone.  But we don’t ever have to feel like we are alone in this ol’ world.  As long as you are willing to pray, the Lord hears the prayer of Jesus & the prayer of the Holy Spirit.  Ain’t that some good news in a world full of heartache, suffering, & pain?  So let’s pray for each other, for our families, for our friends, & for the people who don’t want to be our friends.  Everyone can benefit in some prayer, ya know? I would believe a good moral to this story is God’s looking out for us, always.  We just have to reach out to Him.

Amazingly, tigers do very well at picking pumpkins. At festivals no less. No one was injured or anything with a tiger running around loose. Imagine that.

May I also say that transforming Mr. Sweetie Pants into a tiger was the best $12 I have EVER spent. E.V.E.R.  He was so excited that the lady painting his face said kids like him were the reason she painted faces.  He was so excited.  SO. EXCITED.

Happy fall y’all! Well, so they say it’s fall.  Here in northeast Mississippi, the only time you can really feel the difference is in the mornings & later at night.  We have had a little break in the weather today.  It’s nice, cool, & crisp out.  So thankful for the changing seasons!! Hope you have had a blessed week.  As for me, I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.

The end is nearer than you think & buffalo

eyes

I read some disturbing news today, y’all. We have 100 days left in this year. Lord have mercy, where in the world did 2016 go?  If you had anything you wanted to do in 2016, you’d better hurry.  Time is not waiting for anyone.

time-run-out

That got me to thinking. What do I need to accomplish in the rest of my time in 2016?  My thoughts went from DIY projects at home that I need to do, to family get togethers I need to plan, to work goals I need to get together.  But when I think more seriously about this, I think, What does God want me to accomplish in the remaining time of 2016?  Here is a list of things I believe are noteworthy-

  1. Surrender to Jesus. What I mean by this is if we humble ourselves to do more listening & obeying, then so much of our lives will just fall into place. It’s so hard sometimes to take a step back & just give it all to the Lord -all the worries, uncertainties, stress, & problems in life, that we face. I truly believe, we just need to lay it all at the feet of Jesus. Then & only then will we be at peace. (Phil. 4:7)and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.(NKJV)
  2. Forgive. Forgive others. Forgive ourselves. Just forgive. Instant load lightened right there. (Matt. 6:15) But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (NKJV)
  3. Love so much it hurts. If you have never totally put yourself completely out there, to love others, boy you are missing out. From someone who has been divorced, lost a parent, lost close family members, & have had some strained relationships- I can say I am still glad that I love people. (John 15:13) Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. (NKJV)
  4. Walk in the Spirit. How’s your prayer life? How’s your daily Bible study time, going? If you can’t answer “Amazing!” or “Remarkable!” to either of these, then before 2016 is out, make a change. How can we expect to walk in the Spirit, if we don’t give the Spirit any of our time? If we are walking in the Spirit, then we have less opportunity to let matters of the flesh in.  I know when I have my mind on Jesus, I have less time to give other things any part of my time. (Acts 9:31) Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied. (NKJV)
  5. Be faithful. You can tell so much about a person by what they are faithful in. Let’s make sure we are faithful in the Word.   God has so much to offer us.   Faithfulness is going all in for the long haul.  Look at everything the Lord has done for us.  We can show our love and appreciation by our obedience & faithfulness to Him. (Rev. 2:10) …Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. (NKJV)

I’m so glad you stopped by to visit with me today.  I heard on the radio, this morning, that today is the 1st day of fall.  I’m ready for the weather to be showing out.  We need some cooler temps, that’s for sure!  Hope you are having a blessed week.  Until next time, I have to be going, because I should be washing clothes.

Because you prayed & fall is in the air

fall

Y’all.  When we left church last night, it was dark outside.  I didn’t know what was going on.  Normally, it’s still daylight & hotter than a firecracker.  However, a sweet lady, that was walking out with me, knew exactly what it was.

She said, “The seasons are changing.  The days are getting shorter.”

AND THIS HEAT.  Surely, there’s an end in sight.  (Happy dance inserted here).  I know I have sweated more this year, than I have in a long time.  And I don’t even hardly ever go outside. Ever.

I came across a wonderful devotional in Our Daily Bread.  I wanted to share it with you.

What do you do with your worries? Do you turn them inward, or turn them upward?

When the brutal Assyrian King Sennacherib was preparing to destroy Jerusalem, he sent a message to King Hezekiah saying that Judah would be no different from all the other nations he had conquered. Hezekiah took this message to the temple in Jerusalem, and “spread it out before the Lord” (Isa. 37:14). He then prayed and asked for help from Almighty God.

Soon afterward Isaiah the prophet delivered this message to Hezekiah from the Lord: “Because you prayed about King Sennacherib of Assyria, the Lord has spoken” (Isa. 37:21-22 nlt). Scripture tells us that Hezekiah’s prayer was answered that very night. God intervened miraculously, conquering the enemy forces outside the city gates. The Assyrian army didn’t even “shoot an arrow” (v. 33). Sennacherib would leave Jerusalem, never to return.

Three words in God’s message to Hezekiah—“Because you prayed”—show us the best place to go with our worries. Because Hezekiah turned to God, He rescued him and his people. When we turn our worries into prayer, we discover that God is faithful in unexpected ways! —James Banks

Father, please help me to turn my worries into prayer. My problems are better in Your hands than in my own

Wow!  If that’s not incentive to be in prayer, I don’t know what is.  I have a prayer journal, that I write names in to pray for.  I am thinking of revamping it to be more in depth with it.  I am hoping it will make me more aware of people & situations.  Y’all, I am so guilty of getting caught up with my problems & not thinking about what others are facing.  Hopefully, this will be a good way to keep other’s needs fresh on my mind & heart.  I will share this with you, when I put it together.

I hope everyone has had a great week so far.  We had a nice Labor Day.  My husband out did himself, again.  He grilled ribs, fish, a pork butt, & bar-b-que bologna.  Everyone was definitely full, when they left the house!  Hope the rest of your week is just wonderful!  Until next time, I have to be going, because I should be washing clothes.

And on Labor Day this guy ate so much we about had to roll him out the door. Unless his heart doctor is reading this, then, we made sure he only ate salads and not pork to clog up the rest of his arteries. We are just caring people like that.

Trust me. I know what I’m doing.

september

Has anyone seen August?  Now, where did that guy go?  I turned around & he was just up & gone.  May I also be the bearer of bad good news that Christmas is only 17 Fridays away.  Lord help us all.

I did want to make mention of something that’s been on my mind lately.   I believe if you take a poll with Christians everywhere, I bet everyone would say they trust in God. They trust in God’s providence, they trust in God’s ability, they trust in God to take care of the world.  But really do they?  Y’all, I’ve always heard people say,

“Your actions are speaking so loud, that I can’t hear what you are saying.”

When we get in a bind, do we pray?  When we aren’t in a bind, are we praying?  Are we complaining about our blessings?  I think sometimes, I would be right in there with the children of Israel, sadly.

The children of Israel were quite a fickle group. Even though,  Moses,  through the power of God had just parted the Red Sea for them to walk over on dry land.  Safely.  From the Egyptians.  (Exodus 14:21-24) Even though, God gave them everything they needed.  Their clothes never wore out, (Deuteronomy 29:5) they never had to worry about shelter, & they had food every morning (Exodus 16:35).  Even with all of these miraculous happenings , they still weren’t happy.  They just didn’t get it.  They grumbled & complained.  And when they did, God heard them & made sure they were provided for(Exodus 16:13) But you know what?  Their needs weren’t met right when they thought it should happen or in ways they thought it should be, it was on God’s time.

We have to remember that, too.  But just like the children of Israel, I know how desperate a situation can become before it gets better.  And then what do we do?  We start to question God, y’all.  That is just the human side of us. Our trust might just need a little dusting off every once in awhile.  (I know mine does.)

Psalm 9:10 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You. (NKJV)

We might need reminding that God is able to help us every day of our lives.  We just have to do our part by obeying & asking.

Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (NKJV)

Acts 5:29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men.(NKJV)

I hope you all have a blessed Labor Day weekend.  We will be doing the norm, cooking, eating, & visiting with friends & family.  My Daddy’s birthday was this past Thursday.  So, we will throw in a little birthday celebration in the mix.  Until next time, I love all y’all & will be thinking about ya while I should be washing clothes.

September Scripture Writing Plan

Here we are again, making way for another month.  I know I am looking forward to fall & maybe some cooler temperatures.  Y’all know northeast Mississippi can get smothering, gasping for breath, can’t let the kids outside, pretty hot during this time of year.  Shannon over at Sweet Blessings has yet another great scripture writing plan for September.  She has been such a “sweet blessing” to me by letting me share this with you each month.

September Scripture Writing Plan 16 English

I hope you are having a wonderful week.  We are in full swing with school, church activities, basketball, band, and what have you. Can’t believe I have a baby turning 22 years old in September & a grandbaby turning 5.  My Dad also has a birthday September 1st.  He will be 72 years young.  And when I say young, I mean, when I called him the other day, he was out mowing his yard.  In the middle of the HOT day.  Can’t.Do.A.Thing.With.Him.  If you will remember, this is the same Daddy that was having mini strokes, back a few months ago.  Just glad he feels as good as he does.  Until next time I have to be going, because I should be washing clothes.

Purple hull peas & teaching kids about Jesus

peasI don’t know about y’all, but my most favorite part of summer is all the fresh fruits & vegetables. We had our little container garden on our back deck.  It’s certainly, a do again.  I like having the fresh cucumbers & tomatoes.  And the fresh herbs have simply made our grilling out of this world.  My uncle called me the other day & said,

“Do you want these purple hull peas, I just picked out of the garden?”

Why yes, I reckon I do.  These are the peas that are grown in the same ground my grandparents had their garden.  So, it kinda tugs at my heartstrings. These are also the same peas Miss Neenee told me about Sunday night,

“Mama, I was hungry, when we were at church.  All I could think about was eating peas & cornbread, when we got home.”

I’m not saying we are properly raising our daughter, however, I just don’t know of anything else you could take away from that. Raising a proper Mississippian takes a little time and effort, and having a palate for southern cooking doesn’t hurt either.  Because we LOVE to eat.  And Miss Neenee does, too.  Thank the Lord.

aneely

We had one of the people from Lads to Leaders come speak to us at church Sunday. If you are wondering what Lads to Leaders is, it’s the largest training tool the church has for our youth.  However, I guess that’s not really right.  Adults can participate, as well.  But it’s mostly youth driven.  Bro. Roy Johnson talked about doing all we can to keep our kids in church.  He said statistics show that at a young age children make up their minds about the Lord, Bible, & church.  And a lot of it has to do with who is responsible for their upbringing.  I’m not talking about the parents that don’t take their kids to church.  I’m talking about the parents that have the kids at church.  Sometimes the ones who darken the door every service.  Those kids, that decide,

 ”This is not for me.”

And by the time they get old enough for car keys, they are gone from the church.  Or when they are finally old enough to move out, from mama & daddy’s house, that is all of their church going.  Those kids, are the ones, that may have not seen mama & daddy love the church like they should have.  Those are the ones, that may have always been present, but on the car ride home heard about how it was too cold in the auditorium or too hot.  Or how long the preacher made the sermon, or did you see what kind of dress so & so had on?  Or did you notice those kids running around, babies crying, or the BIG one- Mr. Brown that sits way up front in the church building, doesn’t speak to Mr. Smith who sits all the way in the back corner of the other side, because when he was little his grandfather & the other guy’s grandfather had a disagreement.  We think.  They don’t really know about what or who.  But they can’t speak or look at each other, anyhow.  Y’all.  This really hit me hard, because I know all about this stuff.  My Daddy was the preacher, when we were growing up.  We heard everybody’s business.  But you know what?  My Daddy & Mama loved the church & taught us kids to love the church.

And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou riseth up. Deuteronomy 11:19 (KJV)

That’s what I want to teach to my kids & grandkids. I want my family to go to heaven.  However, I can’t expect my kids& grandkids to learn about the Lord, love the church, & want to be a part of something, that I don’t whole heartedly believe in.  You have heard the old saying, “Do as I say, not as I do.”  Believe me that doesn’t work here.  I just pray the Lord will see fit to help me be a good example to my kids, grandkids, & family.  I don’t ever want to be the reason to make anyone stumble.  Some may believe wealth & success comes from the world, jobs, what you own.  I would think you should feel the richest & happiest in the world if your family were faithful Christians.  Nothing beats that.

It’s August.  As in August.  Summer is on the downhill stretch.  And if you ask me how many of my summer goals I met, well, not many.  I don’t like to point fingers, but this thing called a broke foot didn’t help the cause much.  Now, don’t start gettin’ all worried.   I am fine.  It’s just a ridiculous inconvenience.  That’s all.  I hope you have had a great summer, minus the broken bones.  I have to be going now, because I should be washing clothes.

August Scripture Writing Plan- Better late than never!

Better late that never, is what I’ve always heard!  Shannon over at Sweet Blessings graciously lets me share this with y’all each month.  She has the scripture writing plans in Spanish & a more “manly” print out for you guys!  That Shannon.  She thinks of everything.  Click on the scripture writing plan below to go on over & pay her a visit.   I know she would love to have you!

August Scripture Writing Plan 16

Sorry this is late, y’all.  Hope you are having a great summer!  Ours comes to an ubrupt halt tomorrow.  Miss Neenee goes into 7th grade!  She is an official junior higher now!  And if you think I’m excited, because I am using all of these exclamation points you are wrong! I’m not looking forward to this!  Not looking forward to this at all!  Until next time, I should be going because I should be washing clothes.
