July scripture writing plan-Hello July, goodbye June

If you are a faithful scripture writing follower, or if this is the first month you join us, July’s schedule is here! Shannon at Sweet Blessings has graciously let me share the scripture writing plans she creates. She is so very talented. If you get a chance, go over and visit with her at http://www.swtblessings.com.

You may click on the writing plan here.

Obedience, y’all. Does anyone have any trouble with this but me? I know since I was a young child, I have had a considerable amount of issue with obeying. I perhaps may be what my Mamaw would call “bullheaded“. Which in layman’s terms would mean stubborn as the day is long. And let me tell you, there have been times in my life this has done me NO good at all. None. Zero. Has not been a help in the least. So, this little study, is a wonderful, heartwrenching, glorious, topic for me and those like me, to dig into. Bless our hearts.

I hope you all have a blessed July 4th. We will be doing the usual grilling with family thing. Eating like pigs. Hugging and kissing on grandbabies. Shooting fireworks. Laughing until it hurts. And praying for God to continue to bless America.  Until next time, I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.

What to do when you encounter a mountain lion (angry person) & SUMMER

Hey y’all! I hope you have had a great day. I ran across a blog post of mine from awhile ago. I don’t know about you, but does it seem the world is angrier than it’s ever been? I know I can hardly drive down the road without somebody around me experiencing road rage. People at stores hardly smile. It seems like people are just in a bad mood about something. This blog post is a little lengthy. But I think it covers, very well, what to do when you encounter a mountain lion (angry person). Because we all encounter these creatures from one time or another. To read the post click here.

We are having a very eventful summer. Miss Neenee is practicing basketball & cheer. Plus going to camps. I got this snapchat earlier. Apparently, her discontent of getting up at 5 a.m. is not hampered by her excitement of being with her buds.

We had Vacation Bible School at church Saturday. It was so fun! The kids’ enthusiasm was awesome. They are definitely “On Fire For God” (which was our theme).

For more on this visit our Facebook page here.

I’m so glad you stopped by to visit with me today. We are into full swing with summer. What are your plans? I would love to hear about them. Until next time I have to be going, because I should be washing clothes.

May mayhem & some Jesus

Happy Thursday to you all! I hope May has been treating you well. Miss Neenee has gotten out of school & is in full swing of doing nothing. But not to speak too soon. Basketball & cheer practice starts like in a week. Yesterday, when I was at work, I called to check on her & her Daddy. She had cooked biscuits. He fried tenderloin and made eggs for breakfast. They are stinkers. I told him I bet they were going to be involved in crazy shenanigans like that all summer long. He agreed it was more than a probability.

Mama passed away 15 years ago-May 24th, 2002. So blessed this world had her for 55 years.

I’m not sure if it’s because my mama ain’t here to tell me what to do anymore, but sometimes I get in a rut. With all the things I have to do I run myself in a tiz sometimes. And y’all. I know you can’t pour from an empty cup, but I have a hard time recharging at times. Just taking a break & sitting back & planning what should come next is not something I do a lot. We just go & go & stuff just happens. Before I can turn around one good time, school’s out & I have been flailed into summer. (Or so I feel like I am flying through the air, about to crash.) How much more chaos will there be, before it all stops?

That’s when I have to remember what Jesus has done in the past- in the name of

“What in the world are we going to do?”

Matthew 14 tells about a time that Jesus had been tending to a big crowd of people.

14 And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick. (NKJV)

That evening His disciples were ready to wrap everything up. They came to the Lord & told him to send everybody away, so that the crowd could go buy themselves food in the villages. To the disciples, I’m sure they may have been thinking,

1. It’s supper time. We are hungry.

2. It’s supper time. These folks are hungry.

3. It’s supper time. This is the wilderness. WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE WE GOING TO DO?

But you know what? Jesus knew what they were going to do.

19 Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. (NKJV)

Jesus told them to sit down. And you know what those people did? They sat down. They didn’t run around saying, “No, I think I would rather go back to town to eat.” Or “Yeah, we appreciate this, but I have this allergy to fish & this is just not going to work for me.” Or was anyone asking, “Is the bread gluten free?”

No. Just no. These folks trusted & obeyed & received a beautiful miracle.

How hard is it for us to “sit down” and trust the Lord? No questions. No wringing your hands. No, “But God, I think things should work my way, not Yours.” You may say, “Well, now you’re just getting into my business.” Well, if you are in the business of not trusting the Lord, then, I guess I am. I am guilty. Very guilty of wanting things my way right now. But you know, I have to remember. Remember that if I trust in the Lord, & give Him my faith, it will be given back to me shaken down & running over.

Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”(NKJV)

Now how good is that news??

I am so glad you came by to visit with me today. While I have you here, let me tell you about Miss Neenee getting some awards at the Athletic Banquet at school. She got recognized for playing softball, basketball, and the weight lifting award.  Because what good is a girl that can make the best drop biscuits in the world, if she can’t lift 110 lbs.? She also got an award for all A’s, for the year. That was at the awards program at school at 9:30am one day. I didn’t get a picture of that, because I do this weird thing called , “Have a job” which prevents me from being at the school, at all hours of the day. Nonetheless, we are very proud of this kid.

Here she is, this year, with one of her besties.

Or maybe this is the one from this year….. I forget.

My heart is torn out right now. I have to be going because I will be bawling my eyes out over the less than obvious years that have passed and how big these babies have gotten. Oh and I should be washing clothes.

May Scripture Writing Plan

Good first day of May to y’all! We have so much going on this month. The kids are getting out of school this month. As in This.Month.  Why am I feeling a wee bit sad about this? Only the fact that Miss Neenee will be going into the 8th grade, then to high school, then leaving home for college. Which I am not necessarily encouraging because Y’ALL. That means she will be moving and becoming independent. NOT a fan. Who comes up with all these crazy ideas anyway?

Now, to lighten the mood, my friend, Shannon, over at Sweet Blessings once again has put together a month of scriptures to study. This month is about “Friendship”. Y’all, what would we do without all of our precious friends? I can’t wait to dig into God’s Word about friendship!

I  hope you have had a great weekend. We had 3 wonderful lessons at church about creation. I can’t wait to fill you in on it. Until next time I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.

Helpful hints for a good spiritual spring cleaning

Well, it’s that time again. Time for a good spring cleaning! When I think about spring cleaning, I think about my house. My windows need washing, the rugs need cleaning, the ceiling fans need dusting, & the air conditioner filters need replacing. Y’all, I am just getting tired thinking about all of it!

Just think about it though.

Does our inner man need a spring cleaning, too?

What if we made a conscience effort to get the cob webs out of our hearts? What if we swept jealousy & comparing ourselves to others straight out the door? What would our God given houses be like if we just flat out wiped out hate and filled it back up with love? Like the love I have for chocolate gravy & biscuits.

James, the brother of Jesus,  talks about this in

James 1:21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. (NKJV)

Peter mentions it, as well, in

I Peter 2:1 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking,

And I can’t go without including the fruit of the Spirit (notice this says “fruit” as in singular, as in one-which means all of these beautiful qualities go together. As in you need to have all of these, not just pick which one you want to do & leave the rest out.)

Galatians 5: 22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. (NKJV)

Let’s take a look at ourselves (me included, because I need it more than anybody!). Let’s make sure we have the most important aspect in our lives first, LOVE. Then, I really believe the rest will fall into place.

Matthew teaches in Matthew 12, that if we get rid of something bad in our lives, we need to immediately fill it back up with something good. If we don’t we chance more bad coming back into our hearts.

43 “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. 44 Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. 45 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.”(NKJV)

Whew! Spring cleaning is hard! Especially when you have to get rid of things like being unforgiving & having bitterness in your heart. Things like this is like old baggage you have tucked back in the corner of a closet & forgotten about. It’s been around so long, that you hardly notice it’s holding you up in your walk with God.

Ephesians 4:31-32 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. (NKJV)

How about we all get to work on spring cleaning? I know I sure need it. I’m so glad you stopped by today. I presented the good news to Miss Neenee last night that school would be out next month. As in NEXT MONTH. She was just pleased as punch to know she would have a break before long. Come on summer!! I hope you have a blessed week. As for me, I have got to be going because I should be washing clothes.

April Scripture Writing Plan

Wanted to hop on over (late nonetheless-story of my life) & share the April Scripture Writing Plan. Shannon, over at Sweet Blessings, lets me share this with you each month. She’s just a sweetheart like that! This month’s topic is Grief. What a thoughtful topic to dig into God’s word about! I can’t wait to see where this month’s scriptures take us.

I hope you have had a wonderful weekend. The weather was just showing out all weekend long! We got out in the yard, after church, & played like nobody’s business. Once the grandkids left, I was one tired Grand! I perhaps specifically neglected my laundry this weekend. So, last night I was working like a wild woman trying to get it all together. How was your weekend? I hope you were more productive than me. Until next time, I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.

This too shall pass, maybe like a kidney stone, but it will pass…..

March is here, y’all! With that, Shannon over at Sweet Blessings has another precious scripture writing plan. March’s writing plan is about Grace.

a-grace-scripture-writing-plan-englishJust thinking about grace made me think how much the Lord blesses us. A couple of weeks ago, I had some kidney stones or 3. Then, my Daddy had a spell with his heart, that put him in the hospital for a few days. Kidney stone pain & worrying about your Daddy pain can be pretty rough. And I know you are wondering how the Lord is blessing us with all of that. Well, with my Daddy’s heart problems we found out it was a warning. It was the calm before the storm. The doctor said it was just a precursor to a major stroke. However, since he had this set back, it got his attention to pay better mind to what he has going on. Because it is serious! He’s made some changes & is on the road to recovery. We are so grateful & thankful the Lord has given us the chance to get back on the right path health wise. I have to remember when I have trials, there have been so many good things that have happened in my life. We have to take the bad with the good.

Job 2:10 …Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” (NKJV)

The Lord has always been in the second chance business. But more so than not, with the gospel. We had a teenager obey the gospel & be baptized Sunday night at church. It just made my heart happy for this young boy. He will never know more peace & contentment than he will know with the Lord. The Lord gives us lots of chances to get our hearts right. He listens to our prayers. He is with us during pain & when we need comfort. Things can sometimes seem hopeless, however, nothing in life is permanent. Just know, no matter what is going on in your life, it’s going to pass. If you have fallen on hard times & want to give up, don’t. Always know, if you are praying, God’s working on it.

James 4:14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. (NKJV)

It’s going to pass. If things are going good & nothing but rainbows & fluffy clouds are hanging around you. Enjoy it. It will pass, too. Just know no matter how bad things may seem, the Lord always comes in offers you a way to deal with it.

I Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. (NKJV)

I leave you with this:

  1. No matter what, this too shall pass. Perhaps like a kidney stone, but it will pass.
  2. Be on guard. You never know what direction the devil is going to come at you next.
  3. Trust God. No excuses. Just do that for me. Pretty please? You will be so glad you did.

So, the weather has had a mind of it’s own, obviously. Here in northeast Mississippi, it’s been 75 degrees, then 40 degrees, then raining & humid, then freezing, then 70 degrees again. All in one week. If we could have some winter weather, that would be appreciated, thank you very much. But oh well, we’ve about run out of time. Because it will be hotter than blue blazes again before you know it. Hope y’all are staying warm. Or cool, or what ever it is during a day’s time. Until next time, I should be going, because I should be washing clothes.

Don't you just hate it when this happens?

Don’t you just hate it when this happens?

The time I thought God was missing

calvin-prophetsJanuary is just a fleeting thought.  And Lord have mercy the weather has been crazy.  70 degrees one day then, not too many days later in the 30s. No wonder we’ve had tornadoes all around us. January is also one of the most depressing months of the year.  It’s no wonder we get to questioning all kinds of things in our lives. Which brings me to this:

Do you sometime wonder where God is? I’m not talking about where His spiritual being is.  I’m talking about why am I going through such a hard time? Why is God letting this happen to me?  Me, of all people?  Dog gone it, haven’t I sat in the same spot, at church, for years, visited my elderly neighbors, gave my grandkids money to put in the plate every Sunday, and sung more Sunday school songs with the 1st and 2nd graders until they roll their eyes & say,

“Can we do something else?”

No. You can sing “Jesus Loves Me” until it’s so deep down in your heart nobody could snatch it out. Because that’s what a God fearing person does.  So, where is God, when I need Him? Did He take a break? Did He say He needed a day off from my issues? Should I put out the word that “God is missing”?  I bet the apostle Peter had some of the same exact feelings in Acts 12.

Peter certainly was in a predicament. One of his very best friends had just been killed (v. 2) And now the king was coming after him.  He was thrown in prison & things looked pretty hopeless. The Bible doesn’t say what Peter was thinking, but I betcha he was wondering where God was.  But you know what the good news is? God was right there. Working behind the scenes to help Peter and deliver him out of death. Things weren’t looking too great for Peter, since not only did Herod put one set of soldiers to guard him.  He put 4. Peter was basically just sitting in jail, waiting to die. However, that’s not where Peter stayed.  The Lord sent an angel to rescue him.

If you search the scriptures, no where will you find the Lord promising an easy passage.  He does not offer a life free of problems or pain.  We live in the world, y’all.  As long as we are in the world, we are not exempt from sufferings & heartache. The good news is that we have an awesome God to turn to.  He is the great comforter.  He is the One that is going to take care of us.  And just like He did for Peter, He delivers us in our times of trouble.

Matthew 11:28  Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (NKJV)

Matthew 5: 4  Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. (NKJV)

Thank heavens the Lord will not give us more than we can handle.  Many times we get more than we WANT to handle.  But the Lord is faithful to his promises.

I Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. (NKJV)

trust-in-god

So just know & remember how great our God is & how much He really does care for you. No matter the situation, He will provide all we need.  God’s never missing.  He’s just not always where I think He should be. I have to remember to just pray. Relentlessly, sometimes.  And be still & know He is God & will take care of everything, In. His.Time. These are the times I have to go back to my one word for the year, “Trust”. God is always there.  Always working for our good.

I’m so happy you came by to visit with me today.  I have been enjoying the cooler weather. I’ve also been trying to eat a little better. Which I am using “trying” loosely, because LORD HAVE MERCY I do love to eat.  I hope you have are having a wonderful week.  Until next time I will be going because I should be washing clothes.
