How to handle rudeness like a boss & no fall weather for us

The other day, I came across a situation, that was somewhat uncomfortable. I was at the dollar store with my buggy full of snacks, toiletries, and other miscellaneous things. I was picking up some items to send to my deployed son-in-law. I walked up to the counter with my buggy & the man in front of me walked back in the store for something. I asked the cashier was he coming back? She said he was & I said okay & stayed in my place in line. This lady walks up beside me, then past me, then in front of me.

She said, “Thank you, hon.”

I looked at the cashier & she looked at me because clearly, I had just been passed in line without my permission. I didn’t even realize she was anywhere around until she was already in front of me. Did she not notice me? Did she figure she had less items than me so she automatically got to go 1st? Was she just flat out being rude & pushing her limit with me? I was just taken back & a smidge appalled at how dare she cut line. I was on my lunch. Was my time not just as valuable as hers?

It was at this point I thought there were some options I had here.

  1. I could pitch a duck dog fit & demand the older lady & her can of potted meat get behind me in line.
  2. I could “accidently” lose control of my buggy & run her over.
  3. I could ask the cashier to call a manager & demand the lady be escorted from the premises for having manners of a dish rag.
  4. I could shake my head, smile with my lips pursed tightly, & look the other way.

Fortunately, I chose #4. Which ended up being the best for everybody. Because I got my goods & went back to work. I didn’t have to waste my time teaching someone, not wanting to listen, a lesson. I didn’t have to be escorted out of the store for whooping up on a rude old lady. Was this a really big problem? Or was it just an inconvenience?

Ephesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. (NKJV)

Y’all, every problem creates an opportunity. This time, it allowed me the chance to practice my manners & LORD HAVE MERCY, just let it go. What if this lady had just gotten bad news & wasn’t sure what to do?  What if it made her so preoccupied that she didn’t realize what she was doing? What if she was in a hurry to get back home to a sick family member? What if her life were just in such pain & chaos she was just ready to get what she needed & get out of the store? I didn’t know. It sure didn’t give me a free pass to give her a piece of my mind. In which I have heard my precious Mama Boyce say, (Upon trying to break up a mere disagreement between me and my brother, as young’uns at her house.)

“Don’t you be actin’ sucha way.”

Then, she would raise her eyebrows & you knew she meant it.

Colossians 3:12-13  Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. (NKJV)

Just know this, people are hurting. Someone may have just gotten some news back from the doctor, that was not what they had hoped for. Someone may have just lost a person that meant a lot to them. Somebody could have just lost a job, their house, or their kids in a divorce. We all go through things we wish we didn’t have to. There are certain times, more than others, we just need people to be kind to us. It’s not necessary to prove your point all the time. Nor is it your job to correct everyone’s shortcomings. Will some people take advantage of your kindness? Probably. But if you help one person along the way, ain’t that worth it? None of us are getting out of this thing called life alive. So, why not try to make things as pleasant as possible? And seriously, are there just some rotten people in this old world, that don’t want to be nice? Absolutely.  And I have found those people need kindness most of all. So let’s make sure we give folks the benefit of the doubt. Because on our bad days, don’t we want the same?Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, (NKJV)

I am so glad you came by to visit with me today.  Saturday, me & my Mr. Sweetie Pants grandson decorated our porch for fall. I can’t say it was the most fun I had ever had putting pumpkins out in 90 degree weather. But hey. You can’t have everything. And apparently, this year, we can’t have cool weather in October. I hope where you are, it is beautiful fall weather.  We are enjoying all of our band time with Miss Neenee, as well. She is just blowing her trumpet & making memories. You all have a blessed week & remember to freely share kind words, love, & encouragement. Until next time I should be washing clothes.

Best day of a teen’s life. When they get their hunting license.

What’s in your cup & remember how I told you high school was a bad idea?

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you, making you spill your coffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee? You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in your cup, you would have spilled tea. The point is whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out. Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which will happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It’s easy to fake it, until you get rattled. So, we have to ask ourselves, “What’s in my cup?” When life gets tough, what spills out? Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility? Or does anger, bitterness, harsh words, and reactions come out? You choose! Today let’s work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation, kindness, gentleness, and love for others.

Y’all. I didn’t write that above paragraph, myself. It was copied from a post I saw on Facebook. But BOY did it hit home. Did I tell you what happened to me when I went to register Miss Neenee for high school? We were inside the school. She wanted to see where her classes were. And of course I was excited to climb the stairs and walk all over kingdom come (just kidding, I was not). After my new high schooler had gotten her fill of the visions of classrooms, lockers, hall ways, & perfectly decorated bulletin boards, we headed to the car. When we walked out of the building toward the parking lot, we were greeted by 2 enthusiastic and information bearing kids.

One of the boys said to my excited new  high schooler, “Are you a trumpet player?”

In which my trumpeter replied, “Yeah.”

Then, the boy replied, “Well, your car just got hit.”

WHAT??

Evidently, I must have had that look, because here came the band director. Walking from the site of the accident toward me.

There was a short conversation between the band director & I. He briefly told me a young man accidently backed into my car. He said he the young man was very sorry & had social anxiety. Basically, the kid was afraid I was going to come out with all fists flying, pitching a dying duck dog fit about my car. I looked down the way at the worried & scared look on the boy’s face & immediately felt bad for him. I walked down to my car with my daughter following behind me. Even though this was a situation I wish I didn’t have to deal with, I thought it was a teachable moment. As I walked up & looked at the HUGE dent in my bumper,

I looked over at the boy & said, “Are you okay?” He was so nervous.

He muttered out, “Yes ma’am. I’m really sorry.”

I said, “Don’t worry about it. We can fix cars. We can’t always fix people.” I smiled at him & you could tell he felt more at ease. Now when his dad showed up, I’m not so sure what he felt. But his dad & I exchanged pleasantries and insurance information. The law showed up to make their report & as we departed the parking lot, the young man told me again he was sorry. I let him know if this was the worst thing that ever happened to him, he would be ok. Things happen.

Was this an inconvenience? Yes. Was everyone okay? Yes. Could I have showed out and acted a fool? Probably. But what good would that have done? It wouldn’t have changed the fact my car still needed repair. But, what spilled out of my cup, that time, was forgiveness, patience, & hopefully kindness. Do I always act on my best behavior? Probably not. I am human & sometimes I do say & act in a way that my mama would be ashamed of. However, I can get it together every so often, more so than on other occasions.

What’s in your cup today? Is it filled with hate, spite, & an unforgiving spirit? When you are shaken, does your cup spill out bitterness & sharp words? Or does it spill out thankfulness, compassion, & warmhearted actions?

I Peter 3: 8 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; (NKJV)

Are your ways prideful & judgmental? Or are they filled with mercy & grace?

Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.(NKJV)

Romans 14:13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.(NKJV)

Since I have gotten a little older, I seem to be of the opinion, kindness needs to be deliberate & practiced ALL THE TIME. You never know what someone might be going through. And believe me I have never came across anyone without problems. You may be the only light they see in a world of gloom & doom. This world needs love. Why don’t we make an effort to show the Christ like love we would want shown to us? Life is a circle. What comes around, goes around. You get what you give out. So, next time someone gives you a short answer, just smile & kindly thank them. They may have just gotten some really bad news. Or they could just have their cup filled with some stinkin’ rotten things. Either way, your kind heart might just change their way of thinking. If not, you will be still be doing the right thing.

Like my Mamaw used to say, “Don’t act ugly.”

Y’all, can I say we have just been enjoying the fire out of Miss Neenee being in the band? This means we have a reason to go to the football games again. And boy do we love it. We did however make mention how we miss my son-in-law there. He is deployed right now. He loves sports and competition and yelling for our team. So much, that my daughter may or may not have to tell him to sit down before he gets thrown out of the game. He gets a bit riled up. And we love him for it. I hope your weather has been pleasant. Someone said fall is beginning. I’m not sure where they are, but here in northeast MS it is still HOT AS BLUE BLAZES. I hope you all have a relaxing weekend. We will be at the ballgame tonight cheering on our little trumpet player. Until next time I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.

Look at that game face.Almost got her to smile.Yes this is a HUGE football helmet with smoke billowing out of it. We are just fancy like that.

Football good times.

Helpful hints for a good spiritual spring cleaning

Well, it’s that time again. Time for a good spring cleaning! When I think about spring cleaning, I think about my house. My windows need washing, the rugs need cleaning, the ceiling fans need dusting, & the air conditioner filters need replacing. Y’all, I am just getting tired thinking about all of it!

Just think about it though.

Does our inner man need a spring cleaning, too?

What if we made a conscience effort to get the cob webs out of our hearts? What if we swept jealousy & comparing ourselves to others straight out the door? What would our God given houses be like if we just flat out wiped out hate and filled it back up with love? Like the love I have for chocolate gravy & biscuits.

James, the brother of Jesus,  talks about this in

James 1:21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. (NKJV)

Peter mentions it, as well, in

I Peter 2:1 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking,

And I can’t go without including the fruit of the Spirit (notice this says “fruit” as in singular, as in one-which means all of these beautiful qualities go together. As in you need to have all of these, not just pick which one you want to do & leave the rest out.)

Galatians 5: 22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. (NKJV)

Let’s take a look at ourselves (me included, because I need it more than anybody!). Let’s make sure we have the most important aspect in our lives first, LOVE. Then, I really believe the rest will fall into place.

Matthew teaches in Matthew 12, that if we get rid of something bad in our lives, we need to immediately fill it back up with something good. If we don’t we chance more bad coming back into our hearts.

43 “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. 44 Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. 45 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.”(NKJV)

Whew! Spring cleaning is hard! Especially when you have to get rid of things like being unforgiving & having bitterness in your heart. Things like this is like old baggage you have tucked back in the corner of a closet & forgotten about. It’s been around so long, that you hardly notice it’s holding you up in your walk with God.

Ephesians 4:31-32 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. (NKJV)

How about we all get to work on spring cleaning? I know I sure need it. I’m so glad you stopped by today. I presented the good news to Miss Neenee last night that school would be out next month. As in NEXT MONTH. She was just pleased as punch to know she would have a break before long. Come on summer!! I hope you have a blessed week. As for me, I have got to be going because I should be washing clothes.

Just what I needed & clouds. Just clouds.

humble

Today, after I dropped Miss Neenee off at school, per my usual, I turned on my Bible app.   When I turned it on, it was on John 2.  WHAT??  I’m supposed to be somewhere in Isaiah.  Sometimes I just think these dadgum technological devices have a mind of their own.  So, there I was listening to John while I was on track to hear Isaiah. AND y’all, it was King James Version & I listen to the New King James Version.   To add to my confusion, it was a different man reading.  He had some sort of thick foreign accent & I thought for a minute I didn’t know if I could tolerate the sound of his voice that early in the morning.  Now go ahead & tell me how many foreign talking people I just offended there.   But y’all, just to balance things out, I myself have a pretty thick southern accent, that some people might not like.  So, I suppose it all works out.  ANYWHOO, I figured I might as well not fuss with it.  I love the book of John.  So, I decided not to fight the Bible app & go ahead & listen.  You can imagine my delight, when I got to chapter 3 & heard this verse-

John 3:30

He must increase, but I must decrease.

This verse is such a wonderful example of humility.  John the Baptist was saying this about Christ.  John was sent to be the forerunner for Jesus.  An introduction before the big show, if you might.  However, once Jesus’s ministry started, John stepped back, to let his cousin take center stage.  How many times in life do we find ourselves in situations to be humble?  It’s hard.  Being humble means you have to forget about yourself.  Being humble means putting the wants & wishes of others before your own.

Webster’s dictionary gives the meaning of humble-

as not proud : not thinking of yourself as better than other peoplebe humbleJesus recognized the importance of being humble and kind.  He showed His love & humility toward a Samaritan woman at a well.   He could have turned His nose up when He saw her.  But my Lord is not like that.  He knew who she was & what kind of woman she was.  He told her that.  Not in a sense of condemnation, but in love, humility, & kindness.  Because of that, the woman & lots of people in Samaria came to believe that Jesus was the Savior of the world (John 4:5-42).  Jesus changed those people’s lives that day.  And thousands of years later, He’s still doing the same thing.  Not with an attitude of hate & anger, but of love, humility, & kindness.

Matthew 5:5

Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth. (NKJV)

Philippians 2:5-8

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

I have so enjoyed visiting with you today.  I love it when you stop by.  Sorry for all the new testament drama.  Because when it was all over, it was just what I needed to hear.  Enjoy the pictures below.  These are some clouds I came across on my way from work, the other day.  Pretty big fan of the One that put them up there.  And some GRAND kids.  (Did you see what I did there?) Until next time, I should be washing clothes.

You missed the point & the dreaded time change

miss-the-pointHow many times have you seen people in life that miss the point? While they may be well meaning, their words just don’t help the cause?  I have, first hand, seen people who would rather lash out & “let somebody have it” rather than extend a hand to help.  I have seen those who get in a tiz & their knee jerk reaction is to tell somebody off.  I have actually had someone tell me before, when I have tried to help them see their anger was not beneficial, say to me, “Well, at least they are going to know what I think.”  Really?  In situations when people are maybe not making the best choices & they need our help- they really don’t care what you think.  Being angry with someone for their mistakes & expressing such to them is missing the point.  I know we are all human & want what’s best for our loved ones.  And yes, sometimes you may want to just shake them & say, “What were you thinking??”  All the lecturing & yelling & bawling & squalling will not change the fact that this person needs our love, not our tempers flaring.  I truly believe if we reach out a hand in love, we will get a much more positive response than if we are throwing a hissy fit.  We need to be showing Jesus through us.  How can we do that if we are angry & ranting & raving?  We can’t.  We all make mistakes.  We all miss the point, from time to time, to show Christ’s love.  If we have done that, we should pray & ask the other person to forgive us.  The apostle Paul talks about true love in I Corinthians 13.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, it profits me nothing.

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (NKJV)

This chapter is full of useful & necessary information on how to treat others. From what I can tell, these are commandments.  Not suggestions.  Let’s be sure we treat them as such.  Instead of beating someone over the brow with our version of what they should be doing, we all need to try speaking kindly & understanding where they are coming from with their decisions.  A lot of times, I can be more tenderhearted if I know why someone is doing what they are doing.  Believe me, there are just some people who need guidance.  Even & especially grown men & women.  And sadly, some still will not change, even though you go to them in love.  That’s not your fault.  You have done your part & done it correctly.  Continue to show them love & keep them in prayer.  Hopefully, they will turn to the Lord before it’s too late.  But listen, don’t worry about this.  If the Lord could not turn everyone’s heart to the right thing, what makes you think you can?  It is what it is.  Do your part, with love & move on.

One more thing, you may be asking, “What is “the point” you speak of?”  When I refer to missing the point, I am meaning this is your prime opportunity to show Jesus & His love through us.  Please, please, please, do your best to not miss the point!

love-one-another

I am so glad you came by to visit with me today. We have had a nasty stomach bug going around our house.  I have been able to avoid it, so far.  Well, you know there are somethings a stomach bug won’t even chance. Ha. Hope your week has been full of fall weather & pumpkin spice.  Oh yeah.  And the time changed.  What about that daylight savings time that just jumped up & ran off?  Still. Not. Over. It.   And just to add to your anxiety, Christmas is only 7 weeks away.  Love you like candy canes & chocolate covered cherries! Until next time, I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.

I possibly relate to this a little too much.

I possibly relate to this a little too much.

Now that she’s in 6th grade & have mercy….

Neely & Kristina

It always amazes me how much I learn by having kids around me. Just this week me & my Miss Neenee have had some pretty good conversations. You know she is in 6th grade, this time around. The kids are stuck in the preteen years. They don’t know whether to play with dolls or be boy crazy. Some of them are both. They are also so very silly. There is a little girl, that’s just come to school this year. They have named her, “Bacon”. Miss Neenee talks about Bacon all the time. Everyday Bacon says something or does something new. It’s always something goofy or weird or obnoxious. You know YOUR PRETEEN YEARS in a nutshell. Any the whoo, one day Miss Neenee & I was talking about school this year. I asked her about some of the kids from school. Some that just so tee-totally got on her last nerve last year. (Which is funny, because she was probably getting on their nerves just as bad.) She said that they really didn’t bother her so much this year. She said it was all good with them. I told her perhaps they grew up some over the summer.

She replied, “No, I did.”

What a grown up thing to say! Sometimes we get so up in arms about how other people act, that we forget to look at ourselves. My Papa Clyde always said, to have friends, you had to first be a friend, yourself. I think that lesson has hit home for my Miss Neenee. She is becoming a mature little lady. I wish I could be as understanding & compassionate as she is.

Proverbs 18:24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.(NKJV)

neely

Maybe she is learning the world is not all about her needs, but the needs of others. Hopefully, she is growing to have the heart of a servant. To be kind & tenderhearted, like the apostle Paul talked about

Ephesians 4:32

And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.(NKJV)

friends

Relationships are important. I am glad to learn from my 6th grader that love, forgiveness, & mercy can come through from any age. And speaking of mercy, we talked about the unmerciful servant in my Wednesday night class, this week. I asked the class what they thought unmerciful meant. One little girl said she knew exactly what it meant. She said when she played basketball with her brother & his friends they just kept trying to beat her down & not let her have the ball. She said that was very unmerciful. These kids tickle me to death. We had promotion Sunday a couple of weeks when the school year started back. This is when the kids move classes, since they are advancing in grades at school. I MAY or may not have a couple of kids that do NOT want to advance out of my 1st & 2nd grade class. We just have so much fun in there. If one of the elders is reading this, I sternly told the kids they had to move up next Wednesday night, no exceptions. Then, I gave them a bunch of candy.

Hope you are having a wonderful week. Summer is back. If you haven’t heard. It’s just weather in Mississippi. Hot, cold, air conditioner, heater, all in one day. You just never know. I hope you had a great long weekend. We did. Lots of food, family, friends, & fellowship. Until next time I have to be going, because I should be washing clothes.

My favorite quote of the week.  Don’t worry about saving your money.  You don’t need a penny to do this-

Let’s be pretty & mean people wanted

pretty

I was at work the other day & had a disgruntled truck driver come in for a load. He was at the window as soon as I got in. He wasn’t happy. And the duration of his time at our facility, he was a gripin’ & belly achin’.  On his 14th trip, back in the office, to tell me how terrible everything was in his life, one of our usual truck drivers was standing in the lobby. This “seasoned” driver was standing there, with his shorts on (because it was 200 degrees in the shade that day.) He was looking all dapper, as his custom, with his prosthetic leg. He had a logging accident several years ago & lost his leg. He is very positive about this tragic incident that happened to him, though. One day, he told me  that there was no way he could imagine not working. When the accident happened, the doctor suggested he get on disability. Well, he was purely disgusted by that. He was not raised to not work. So, with God’s help, he made a way to get back to work. Since this, he has taken an attitude of

“Slow down, it’s all going to be ok. Things just are what they are & sometimes delays & problems can be for good. “

SO, I was delighted when the crabby driver took notice of my driver friend with one leg. They started up a conversation & low & behold before you know it the unhappy driver was telling us all to have a good day.   I was very impressed on how that situation played out  I mentioned to the driver this very fact. He said,

“You know I learned a long time ago, this world needs hateful people. I’m telling you spiteful & mad people are needed in this world.  I tell my kids when they run into some low down cuss, that’s spittin’ & complainin’, they need to thank God for them. Because God’s teaching them to appreciate us decent folks.”

What a delightful attitude! My Daddy says some of the same about contrary folks.

“Be glad when you have to deal with mean folks. They show you how you DON’T want to act.”

Maybe that’s why Jesus tell us to treat others kindly.

Ephesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

And as we want to be treated.

Matthew 7:12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

That’s a beautiful recipe for how to get along with others. Attitudes can be contagious. I am so thankful to this driver, for reminding me of that.

I hope you all are having a wonderful week. We have still been trying to make peace with getting Miss Neenee to school every day. On time. So that she does not have to deal with the RIDICULOUS time Nazis at school, who punish little kids for reasons beyond their control and whathaveyou. You can read more about that here. Until next time, I have to be going, because I should be washing clothes.

Back to school- seriously summer has bit the dust

back to school

My Miss Neenee went back to school yesterday.  As in yesterday.  What about summer?  Where did that guy go?  I have to admit, it still has not really sunk in that summer 2015 has come to a screeching halt.  I mean, there were so many things we were going to do this summer.  For the past several years, we have done one of those summer bucket lists.  Of course with school deciding to slip up on us like this, we barely made a dent in that list.   Ya’ll time is not stopping for anybody.

I always like to look around & see what cute things other bloggers have come up with for back to school.  Here are my best finds:

free printable morning routine chartBecause who doesn’t need a morning routine??

free alphabet printableWhat an adorable printable to give to a teacher or to use for yourself.

backtoschoollunchboxjokes30daysMy Miss Neenee loves a lunchbox joke.  I’m sure your sweeties will, too.  Just print these off & slip them in their lunchbox.

Also, on thirtyhandmadedays.com there are a plethora of ideas for back to school organizing.  Just looky here-

I also talked to my Miss Neenee & my sweet Wednesday night Bible class students about kindness.  I told them how important it was to be Christ like & show kindness to everybody.  Especially those that don’t deserve it.  They need it the most.  We also talked about bullying.  I asked them what should they do if they see somebody being mean to someone else?

One sweet girl said, “Go tell a teacher.”

I also reminded them they could take up for the person getting bullied, too.  That sometimes will make a bully stop in their tracks.  No one admitted to ever being bullied, however, I wanted it to be fresh on their minds.  That way, they would be able to react the way Jesus wanted them to.be kindEphesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

I sure hope you are having a good week.  It has been a smidge busy around our house.  With school starting & whathaveyou.  I have also been shelling peas, making some pickles, & putting up green beans just like it’s my job.  I may make a good homemaker before long.  You just never can tell about those things.  green beans

Also, this year while Miss Neenee was selling Girl Scout cookies, I made the executive decision to buy some & put them in the freezer.  I have been partaking of some of those here of late.  After a stressful day at work, one does not realize the power a Samoa can have over you.  My pre-Girl Scout cookie weight was a little more easy on the eyes than what I have had going on as recently as this morning when I got on the scales & to my dismay decided maybe I should give up on the Girl Scout cookies.  I perhaps may need to give them to my daughter.  She’s eating all kinds of strange things lately because she’s having another BABY!  You heard me right.  Another sweet thing to cuddle & spoil & kiss & hug.  To say we are delighted is truly an understatement.  So, now you know what all is going on with me.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend.  Until next time, I will be going, because I should be washing clothes.

Don’t tell me to smile & what to do when it sunshines

th

In life, I have found this to be true- you just never know what someone else is going through. The other day, I was at the pharmacy picking up my medicine.  There was a man ahead of me.  I was practicing waiting patiently.  I say practicing, because there are times I get sorta disgruntled, when I have to wait.  These days, I am so busy, that having to wait on someone else can put me out a tad.  This previous statement comes from the same lady that is the biggest time waster that ever was, which also has a love hate relationship with time management.  So, I know, I need to clean off my own door step before I even consider making mention of anyone else.  There, since that elephant is out of the room, I was standing in line at the pharmacy when I noticed the lady behind the counter looking sort of perturbed.  The man, in front of me left, & I stepped up to the counter.  I told the pharmacy tech what I was after & she got my bag.  As she was ringing it up, she said,

“Do you know what that man said to me?  He told me to smile.”

Then she shared with me how her daughter had run away from home at 18 years old.  She said she had not seen her in several years.  She said she had heard her daughter had gotten married & actually only lived a few miles from her house.  She said some days it was all she did- was to think of her daughter.

She then said, “You know with that on my mind, sometimes it’s just hard to smile.”

At that point I felt I needed to share with her the 5 cent version of the situation with my son.  I told her my 23 year old son left home several years ago.  That he’d had 2 car wrecks (while under the influence) & chose to do drugs & drink, still. Now.  BUT, that God was good & he took care of things in His own way & time.  I told her I would be praying for her & she said she would be thinking of me, too.

Nahum 1:7 says

The Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him. (NKJV)

Nahum

Lord have mercy! Who in the world would have known that innocent little drug store visit would have been a chance to encourage somebody?  You just never know what other people are going through.  That’s why I HATE it when some well-meaning person tells me to smile.

If I look that disheartened, just ignore me, or say“Bless your heart,” or how about “Have a good day”?

Those kinds of things would be much better than,

“Smile, it can’t be that bad.”

Really?  Because you don’t know if my heart has just been ripped out & stomped flat by somebody I love or if I am doing ALL I can to put one foot in front of the other or if I’m just sour person.  Why take the chance?  Just be nice.  That’s all we need anyway.  A little kindness.

The apostle Paul gave this commandment to the church at Ephesus:

Ephesians 4:32

And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. (NKJV)

ephesians 4 32

That means I need to be kind & you need to be kind, because God was kind to us.  He sent His son to die on the cross for our sins.  Do you think God was smiling when He did that?  Probably not.  And I bet nobody was saying to God that day:

“Smile, it’s not that bad.”

Because you know what?  Sometimes it just is that bad & we need to be kind & tenderhearted toward each other.  Many times people need compassion.  Not somebody barking at them to get over it.  What if they don’t know how?  We need to be ever mindful of others.  It’s just considerate.  Be prepared to help & encourage whenever you go.  Kind words will melt a broken heart quicker than anything.

Thank you for stopping by to visit with me today.  Sunshine! Finally, coming through these windows.  Loving this 60 degree January weather. What exactly do you do when it sunshines?  You get out & enjoy it.  Just like we did.

I hope you have a blessed week.  Until next time, I should be going because I should be washing clothes.

Kindness from a 5th grader & why is it Thanksgiving already?

kindness mysocalledjunkylife

The other morning, while my Miss Neenee was eating breakfast, she posed a question to me.

“Mama, if you have $17 how much more do you need for it to be $25?”

Seriously, I don’t need this kind of stuff that early in the morning.  But, I tried.  I looked around for my phone.  I obviously needed to consult my calculator. My calculator doesn’t care how simple the math problems are.  My calculator respects the fact I need math help.  But, my phone was still plugged up, back in my bedroom.  So, I had to take drastic measures.  I figured it out in my head. Which really made for a bad morning & by the way, made my head hurt.

I said,

“Probably about $8.  Why?  Who needs $25?”

Then, she begins to explain that she didn’t think a boy, in her class at school, had enough money to go on a field trip with everyone.  She said her & her bestie decided they would try to help pay for him to go.  She said the money had to be turned in by tomorrow.  So, today they were going to figure out how much money they had between them.

My heart melted right there over the ham sandwiches I was making. You know, 5th grade has been hard, so far.  They are changing classes & have different teachers all throughout the day.  The kids are getting more responsibilities.  The kids are maturing.  They are a bit dramatic & wearing their sassy pants for sure.  I worry & want Miss Neenee to keep her head on straight.  Be her own person & not get caught up with all the goings on around her.   But somehow, she always comes around with her kind heart.

The apostle Paul instructed the church at Ephesus in

Ephesians 4:31-32

32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. (NKJV)

Miss Neenee & her friend are definitely working on having the Fruit of the Spirit:

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. (NKJV)

I just pray she can keep a pure heart.  Kids will be kids.  I am not a perfect parent.  However, I believe the main ingredient in the recipe of raising kids is this:

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. (NKJV)

That means I have some responsibility to my kids.  I have to keep my own heart clean.

Psalms 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. (NKJV)

Do I fail?  Sure, but Jesus knows I am doing my best to remain faithful.  (Revelation 2:10) That is what is important- remaining in a good standing with Jesus.  My prayer is not only for my own children, but for your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or any small children close to you.  For them to understand the importance of being kind & loving a great God.  We are all in this together.  Whether you want to admit it or not.  We are responsible for helping each other.  That’s what the Lord would want.

Thank you so much for stopping by today.  I love it when you take time to visit.  We had some snow last night.  Of course, we were all in a panic.  This morning, by the time we made it out the door, there was none to be seen anywhere.  On another note, has anyone told you next week is Thanksgiving??  As in, not this week, but next week?  My sweetie and I have already been contemplating the turkey. This year, I’m afraid we may just out do ourselves.  We shall see.   I hope you have a great rest of the week.  As for me, I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.

And don't get me started about how I am tired of seeing Christmas trees up before Thanksgiving. I'm with the turkey on this one.
