God’s got this & why Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays

Do you ever get down hearted? Just worried & concerned about your family, your finances, your health? Not to mention loved ones around you. It’s the holidays, y’all.  I don’t know about you, but sometimes it seems those are the times we get anxious. We also have a lot of reasons to miss those who have passed on.  I know I miss my mama & grandparents more than ever this time of year.  On another hand, it’s so easy to get caught up in a friend’s well being, or how about the world around us? I promise, I stopped watching the news on t.v. awhile ago. It’s just too much, sometimes. For one thing, it’s depressing. So many terrible things are happening all around us. The shootings, drugs, and just in general how people are turning away from God. It makes you think everyone is bad & wonder where is God when you need Him? If you are like me, you pray & you wait. Then, when things just don’t work out, like I think they should, I start to doubt. I doubt my prayers. I doubt my thoughts. I doubt how things are playing out in my life. I wonder if the Lord is even listening? Or if He has time, with all the other foolishness all around, to even care about my problems. That’s when I have to stop myself, dead in my tracks, & remember Who, the God I pray to, is.

The God I pray to is the same God that created Adam from the dust of the ground. Just made a real, living, breathing, human being straight out of dirt. (Genesis 1:26)

He’s the One who promised Abraham & Sarah a child in their old age. And you know what? Issac was born. (Genesis 17:19)

He’s the One who had never let rain fall on the Earth & promised Noah, if he would go out and build a boat, he would save him. Noah didn’t even know what rain was, but since God said do it, he did & boy, I bet he was proud he did. (Genesis 6: 13-22)

God is the One that promised to send a savior, and then sent Jesus. Not in a big braggadocious, royalty like way. But to a common, every day mom & dad. (Luke 2: 4-7)

The Lord raised people from the dead, made people whole that could not be healed by anyone else on Earth, put the stars in the sky, and made a donkey talk. (Numbers 22: 28)

For one second, I should never think He ain’t able to help me. Sometimes, I have to remind myself Who I am talking to. Because He can do more than I could ever think or imagine. All He needs from me, as a Christian, is to believe He can. Then, He will.

Matthew 21:22 And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive

The same God that can create a universe out of nothing, can answer my prayers. Just knowing that should make my faith big. When I get to feeling things are hopeless, I think about how the Lord has a way of working things out in our lives. We may not understand what is happening, at the time. However, the Lord has always provided for me & my family. Even when I didn’t know what the outcome would be, He was right on time. He will do the same for you. Don’t ever doubt it. Things are going to happen to us. We are going to have to deal with things, we wish we didn’t. However, with God, you never have to worry.

Isaiah 54:17 says:

No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their righteousness is from Me,”
Says the Lord.

It does not say weapons (problems) will never form. Problems will arise. However, God will not let them prosper (continue). Our job is to keep a Christ like attitude about it, pray about it, & wait for God to work it out.

I love this saying:

I hope everyone has had a wonderful week. Are you ready for the big day on Thursday? I know we are so excited to be with family and friends over Thanksgiving.  This is one of my most favorite holidays. My daddy called me last night & we planned what we were going to have for breakfast that day. Y’all eating is very serious with us. I just cannot wait to get all my people in my house. Those guys are pretty important to me. And I love, love, love being in their company. Family, friends, & eating too much. My favorite. I hope you have a truly wonderful Thanksgiving. As for me, I must be going, because I should be washing clothes.

Behind these sweet smiles were some cold girls!

Parade time! We love a parade!

Miss Neenee enjoyed her birthday cookies. Since she loves to cook, it was only fitting she had cooking themed cookies.

Look how cute! These were made by Meg Makes and Bakes. They tasted as good as they were pretty!

On an unrelated note, I almost had bread crumbs for breakfast instead of oatmeal the other morning. Darn those same looking containers. And my old eyes.

Thanksgiving thoughts and remember to be thankful for what you don’t have

Thanksgiving is two days away. As in TWO.DAYS. How many are feeling overwhelmed? I know that guy hangs around my door step a lot. Believe you me, there are times I feel more overwhelmed than anything else. What does this mean? Does it mean I am letting things of the world over take my faith in God? Does it mean I am not trusting in the Lord? Does it mean I have lots of responsibilities and I just keep adding more? Those are some things I want to address today. Because those of you who know me, know I am a fountain of got it together & follow through. Ha. LOL. OTFL. Or whatever hashtag these young’uns use now a days.

With all the things we have going on, cooking for the holidays, taking care of kids, running a household, trying to be the best version of you, health problems, money problems, & basically just problems, it’s no wonder we meet ourselves coming. When we feel like we can’t anymore, remember the Lord says we can:

Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.(NKJV)

Psalm 27:1 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.(NKJV)

Psalm 34:17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears,
And delivers them out of all their troubles.(NKJV)

I Peter 5:7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.(NKJV)

The Lord wants to help the hurting & those that are needy, not the got it all togethers. If you are spending time in prayer, then you are have time well spent. Anytime you can have a conversation with the Lord, it’s not time wasted. There’s a beauty in the struggle that we don’t always realize. Within every problem, there is opportunity. Opportunity for change. Opportunity for seeing things a different way. Opportunity for learning. Don’t look at problems as the end of the world. Instead, see them as a lesson learned. See them as the Lord molding us into stronger, better people. Calm waters never make good sailors. Be thankful the Lord wants to equipt us for bigger things. And accept it. We, as people, want to tell God what is best for us. Instead of realizing God’s already got it all handled.

Here are some things that might help you keep it between the ditches:

  1. Pray- Pray small prayers throughout the day. Or plan for prayer. Whether it be at the beginning of your day, at lunch, or when you go to bed. Just make sure you are keeping the conversation going with God. That in itself will help you more than you can ever imagine.
  2. Make lists- I am a list person. If I don’t I get so easily overwhelmed. I have always heard the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. So, I try to break things down as I go. Knowing I am preparing Thanksgiving breakfast & dinner, I start out with a menu. Then, I make a list of what I will need to make everything. I also make a list of what we will need at the meal. I make a list of my groceries. I make a list of what I am going to prepare 1st, 2nd , 3rd. Because that is easier to me than thinking I am responsible for making our Thanksgiving meals perfect & memorable for my dear family. See what I did there? Lists make me sane. The thought of high expectations overwhelm me.
  3. Let people help you- Don’t think you have to do everything by yourself. If someone says, “What can I do to help?” Then by golly, have them something to do. Me & my sweetie handle the main Thanksgiving meal. The girls do the desserts. It just works out.
  4. Read your Bible- What better way to feel peace & a calm about you, than to spend time in God’s Word? Prayer is talking to the Lord. That’s important. But letting God talk to you, through the Bible, is important, too.
  5. Get away-Sometimes just getting away to clear your head makes all the difference in the world. If you can’t take a two week vacation to the Bahamas, you can get up, walk outside, and take a deep breath of fresh air. Changing your scenery by taking a drive or a walk always seems to put things in a better perspective.
  6. Thank the Lord for what you don’t have. Sickness in your family, dealing with children that have lost their way, money problems, hungry mouths to feed and nothing to feed them, your own personal health problems, a car that won’t start, worn out tires, those are lots of terrible things to have to encounter. But what if you don’t have a sick child or your health is pretty good right now? Thanking the Lord for what you have is important. However, thanking Him for what you don’t have is just as crucial to having a thankful spirit.

I hope you all are doing good this TWO DAYS BEFORE THANKSGIVING. I know, I can’t get over it either. We have had some wonderful weather happening here in northeast Mississippi. The leaves are changing and the air is crisp. Just what the doctor ordered! Until next time I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.

And just like that, November was over & December scripture writing plan

Hey y’all!  I hope everyone had a wonderful & blessed Thanksgiving.  Ours was so good.  We had family over & ate & ate & ate.  But hey, it’s ok. We won’t have to do that again for another few weeks.  Since I have made myself pretty scarce here lately, I will try to catch you up a bit on what’s been a happening.

Miss Neenee had a birthday.  It has become more like a birthday week.  It takes over & it’s hard to get rid of it.

Miss Neenee & Daddy

Miss Neenee & Daddy

First we started out with Sunday lunch, for her birthday.  When we said, “Eat”, of course Daddy was there!

Miss Neenee & Mr. Sweetie Pants

Miss Neenee & Mr. Sweetie Pants

Mr. Sweetie Pants was so excited to give Miss Neenee her present.

abdaykade-hugHe can be so sweet!  No wonder I call him Mr. Sweetie Pants!

abdayThen, on Friday night, some of her friends came for a little Escape Room fun.

abday-escape

abday-lillyMiss Neenee got one of those cute candy bar posters.  Thus, this ended her birthday week.  Along with Orange Danishes for breakfast on her birthday, cupcakes, presents, calls, texts, instagram messages, visits, & a sleepover.

My girls

My girls

Then, there was Thanksgiving.  I just don’t know what I would do without these 2 girls in my life.  As her custom, Livie spent the night with us on Thanksgiving Eve.  We all had breakfast together the next morning.  Which was a BLESSING.  Because I love all these people to pieces, y’all.

I sure do love these faces BIG!

I sure do love these faces BIG!

My nephew is in his 1st semester at Ole Miss.  He’s got straight A’s, is in a fraternity, is living in the dorm, is chasing girls, making new friends, & did I say has straight A’s??  He’s a smarty pants alright.  My sweet niece, Livie, is playing basketball, is sophomore class president, she’s active in her church, & is going to be 16 years old this month.  She’s precious as the day is long.  I was so glad they haven’t gotten too big to come hang out with their aunt.

thanksgiving-turkMy eldest daughter always makes something festive for occasions that arise throughout the year.  This Thanksgiving, she made a turkey cheeseball.  It was so good, too.  She also made some chocolate covered pumpkin & cream cheese candy.  I told her on Friday she needed to come get them, I was eating too many of them.

She said, “Eat them all, I don’t want to bring them home.”

Well, I must have taken that for some sort of commandment or something because I just about did.  My middle daughter made chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter pies, & mashed potatoes.  Which was also really good.  Miss Neenee helped me cook everything else.  She’s quite handy that way.  We ate a lot & laughed a lot.

My people

My people- JW, Livie, Bud, & Miss Neenee

Oh, I do have to tell you one more thing.  You know we have these grandkids that are entertaining as the dickens.  Well, not to be shown up, Daddy was in rare form at dinner.  He went to a whole new level of hilarious.  I promised him I wouldn’t share any pictures.  But just think about this,

my 72 year old Daddy & Snapchat filters.

Could. Hardly. Contain. Myself.  We laughed until we couldn’t laugh anymore.  He looked like a deer in one, a panda bear in another, and I believe he had a rainbow spewing out of his mouth on the one we had to quit on.  When my E.A. & him get together, there’s always trouble.  And she was the one that provided the Snapchat filters for the entertainment.

december-scripture-writing-plan

Lastly, I didn’t want to forget the December scripture writing plan.  Shannon at Sweet Blessings does such a wonderful job on these each month.  So blessed that she lets me share these with y’all.

I hope y’all have had a great couple of weeks.  We are looking forward to the next holiday, which is THIS MONTH.   Miss Neenee & me put up the Christmas tree.  I think it’s the earliest I have ever put it up.  These grandbabies just make it so exciting! treeYay Christmas!

While we were putting up the tree, Miss Neenee decided a cup of hot chocolate would be really nice.  hot-chocolateDoesn’t this look good?  She fixed it all up herself & gave it to me.  It was really rich & creamy & probably had no calories at all, since we were on a holiday & putting up the tree & having a good time.  I hear calories don’t count at times like that.

Until next time, I have to be going, because I should be washing clothes.

Well, better late than never – November Scripture Writing Plan & guess what day it is?

Well, better late than never, y’all.  This is the November Scripture Writing Plan.  I am sorry it’s late.  I hope you are having a blessed month.  Thanksgiving is this month & Christmas is right around the corner.  Where has 2016 gone to?  That guy has been moving like lightning here lately.

november-scripture-writing-plan-englishShannon over at Sweet Blessings, lets me share this with y’all every month. I am so thankful for her sweet heart!

Also, today is Miss Neenee’s 13th birthday!  Just this morning, my brother said,

“She’s a teenager now, ain’t she?”

With that, I started gasping for air & curling up in the fetal position, because y’all.  This is my baby.  It seems just like yesterday she was wearing pigtails to kindergarten.  And now, BOOM! another teenager rallying through the ranks.  Peace be still.

Until next time, I will be going, because I should be washing clothes.

Birthday sleepover fun & Thanksgiving is next week

There perhaps was some tornadic activity or something of that sort, at our house this weekend.  Here are the culprits:

a girls

If they did not have fun, it’s not because they didn’t try. I feel like it was a success.  In lieu of that, I am posting things to make for a fun slumber party.

They made their own pizzas.a neely pizWe just used canned biscuits, pizza sauce, & toppings.  Lots.Of.Toppings.

a neely pizza

a neely cake I

Of course, you need a birthday cake, specifically, if it’s a birthday party sleepover. (And on a totally unrelated note, my pants don’t want to fit very well anymore.  First the wedding with candy & sweets, then Halloween candy, now this.  If somebody knows how to remove that part of you that wants to cram sweet stuff in your mouth, all.the.time, please let me know.  I’m not a doctor, so I don’t know )

a neely cake

a neely laser

Then, if you are crazy brave enough, you can do some fun games like laser tag.  There was also an arcade at this said laser tag establishment.  Which they enjoyed, as well.

a neely fluteOnce we got back home, we had a talent show.  I had made out “pre-made” talents on slips of paper.  I put them in an envelope & handed out numbers.  When I called their number, they picked out an act to showcase.  Coincidently, this sweetie picked

Play the flute

And guess what?  She plays the flute & had it with her!

a neely christinaThis little beauty selected- Tell jokes.

I quite possibly laughed way too hard.  She was so dadgum funny, though.

a neely lillyThis sweet friend picked- Make hand puppets

She was pretty good at it, too.

a neely paisley talentThis amazing friend did a wonderful theatrical reading of nursery rhymes.  I have to say, she did an impressive job.  And how do I know she is so amazing?  Her shirt said so, of course

There was also some doing the Whip & Nae-nae .

a

Games

One we did was, What’s in your mouth.  This was one of their favorites.  We did peanut butter, candy, pickles, olives, honey, cranberry juice, cherries, & others that I can’t recall, because I am old & my memory never serves me correctly.

  • Divide the preteens into two groups. Blindfold one group and allow the other group to make a trip to the kitchen. The girls in the kitchen choose foods to eat and bring them to the room the blindfolded girls are in. Each girl feeds a blindfolded girl one of the food items. The girls blindfolded must figure out what the food is.

Nail polish game

  • Place the tween girls in a circle around several bottles of nail polish. The first girl spins the first bottle of nail polish. Whoever the bottle is pointing at when it stops spinning must paint one fingernail that color. The game continues around the circle. At the end of the game, all girls will have all 10 fingernails painted several different colors. Girls can also paint their toenails, if they desire.

a neely polishThe girls liked this game.  They got their nails polished in the process!

a neely tableThey did some other things like making a human table.  They thought this was fun.

They also did a marshmallow game

You take marshmallows & put them in a bowl.  With a plastic spoon, in your mouth, see how many you can transfer to another bowl in a minute.

They played a cup tower game that was fun.

Cup tower game

With a certain number of plastic cups each, 2 players build a tower & take it back down within a minute- oh, one handed.

I had some other games to play like- taking a pair of panty hose & putting a penny in the toe & have them get the pennies  out.  Another was to  put tennis balls in the end of panty hose, put them on your head & knock down water bottles (which were in a circle, with the girl standing in the middle).  I was going to mention some of those after they feasted on pancakes, eggs, bacon, & biscuits Saturday morning.  HOWEVER, I looked in the living room & they were laughing, talking, braiding each others hair & the such.  I thought, why spoil that with a panty hose game??

Also, I need to give a SHOUT OUT to my sweet husband, who was quite the trooper & helper through out all of this.  Because did I mention, 8 PRETEEN GIRLS??  Thankfully, he is good with kids.  Which is a delightful thing, because we always have a bunch around.

I am so proud these girls have each other.  It made me think of this verse:

Proverbs 17:17

A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.

Some of these girls have been friends for years.  Some of them just met, for the first time this weekend.  Miss Neenee invited some of her friends from church & some from school.  All in all, they got along beautifully. Which is nice.  Because did I mention 8 PRETEEN GIRLS??  It made me thankful they will have each other, as they transition into becoming teenagers & adults.  That’s just a hard time in life.  I hope they will lean on each other & spend time with each other & other Godly girls.  SO.IMPORTANT.

As I was going to bed, I told them these things:

A. That I loved them all & I hoped they slept well.

B.  That they could eat & do whatever they wanted to.

C. That I would appreciate them not tearing the house down.

D. That unless someone is bleeding or has a serious medical emergency, please do not let me see their faces until the next morning

Luckily, they did happen to obey all these rules.

I am so glad you came by to visit with me today.  I am feeling so blessed.  Oh yeah & I am getting things together for my company next week.  Seeing it’s the holiday season, folks start coming from near & far to be guests in my house.  I am so excited.  What do you have planned for your Thanksgiving holiday?  Until next time I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.

Go on over to see Kristi at I should be mopping the floor.  She always has the cutest ideas.  Click on the picture below.

Thanksgiving surprise & who I love

Well, apparently it’s 2 weeks until Thanksgiving & nobody bothered to tell me.  Even though I have been reminding everyone how it’s so many weeks until Christmas, Thanksgiving just left me this year.  And by the way, I have been getting some terrible deer in the head light looks when the mere mention of Christmas is made.  I suggested to my sweetie maybe this year we should start Christmas shopping & have all our gifts bought by Thanksgiving, (which obviously I thought was at another time).  He laughed & explained to me I would never be able to do that, since it is my custom to lose my hair & run around like a crazy woman the weeks & days leading up to Christmas.  Well, shut the front door, he was right. However, I have had some happy things going on here of late.  Mainly in the name of kids, of course.  Here are some highlights of my weekend.

This is what you look like when you have "Super Speed".

This is what you look like when you have “Super Speed”.

And on a very related note, as you can see, this was at a local cell phone store where I was attempting to do some business.  However, was having to constantly remind Mr. Sweetie Pants that the cell phone store was NOT specifically the place to be exhibiting this said “Super Speed”.  WHEW!  I was one tired Grand by the time I left.  Thankfully, I had a helpful Miss Neenee with me.

BDAY KADE

It was Miss Neenee’s birthday & we were going to see Disney on Ice.  Mr. Sweetie Pants was being sassy, so I asked him did he not want to go see Mickey Mouse?  He promptly, let me know, he did not want to see anything.  Please refer to the above photo.

BDAY KIDSSo, this is why we go to see Disney on Ice each year.  Mesmerized & happy faces.  That’s what we have here.

BDAY NICKNext,  you have this one who obviously loves Disney just as well.  I mean, crown him king Mickey, hello.  Or maybe EA’s Prince Charming?  Awww…..

BDAY MIKEYThen, you have these faces, squished up against my face.  Love.These.Faces.

BDAYI’m not sure if my son has some new leg warmers & back pack or if he was attacked by munchkins.  Either way, they are all cute as can be.

BDAY NEELYAnd it was all because of this girl.  Happy birthday Miss Neenee!  More to come this weekend!

I am so very thankful for all these sweet people in my life.  Since this month is Thanksgiving, (who would forget that?) I ran across this 30 day scripture reading plan.  I know I’m a little late, but it’s still a wonderful exercise to commit to spend your time in God’s word.

THANKSGIVING

I hope you all are having a good week.  Now that I’ve realized it’s time for Thanksgiving, I will be making my menu for Thanksgiving dinner.  What will you be making?  Until next time, I have to go, because I should be washing clothes.

Raising a peacemaker & this is what my Thanksgiving looked like

nurses_office_1018

The other day, I got a phone call from the school.  It was my Miss Neenee.  She began telling me she was in the nurse’s office.  (Which from my experience, has never turned out good.)

She said she had been hit by a boy in P.E. They were playing basketball.  They were both going up to catch the ball.  The boy slammed into her, to get the ball. Then, the ball hit her in the face.  All of that commotion broke her glasses & left a cut on her eyebrow.

broken glasses

She started by telling me,

“Mama, I’m in the nurse’s office.  I cut my eye playing ball & broke my glasses.”

“You cut your eye?  Your eyeball?”  I was just a smidge panicked.

“No, the outside close to my eyebrow.  And it’s bleeding.” She said.

“It’s bleeding???” Now, full blown anxiety & confusion has set in.  And apparently, I sounded too frantic, because the nurse got on the phone.

The kind nurse reassured me she was not bleeding profusely.  That she took a lick on the eye & her glasses were broken.  She put the Miss back on the phone.  I asked her did she need to be picked up & she did not.

After we got home, I asked her, “Who was this boy & what did you do when you got hit?”

Well, first she cried.  Then, she went to the nurse’s office (accompanied by one of her besties, no less).

basketball

“What happened with the little boy?” I pressed.

“He kept saying he was sorry & he said he would buy me some new glasses.” She said

“Well, what did you do to him?”  I quizzed.

“Umm, nothing.  He said he was sorry.  A bunch.”  She replied.

Really?  No big throw down?  No show down amongst the 5th & 6th grader P.E. students?  If it had of been me, I would have probably had to smack some heads.  You can’t push somebody around & get by with it.  Then, I thought about what Jesus said, in His sermon on the mount:

Matthew 5:9

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. (ESV)

Matthew 5:38-39

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. (ESV)

By Miss Neenee just letting it go, she became a peacemaker, like Jesus is talking about there in verse 9.  She passed on the opportunity to retaliate.   She turned the other cheek.  Perhaps I could learn a lesson here.  Maybe we all could.  Keep your temper & anger in check.  It’s what Jesus would want us to do.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  We most certainly did.  I was off work for 4 days.  Out of those 4 days I saw my kids & grandkids every day.  That’s a lot of happiness for me.  I even got to keep my grandbabies for some of that time.  Fun was had by all.  I hope you have a wonderful week.  As for me, I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.
