What my Mamaw left for us

Today is a special day. On April 19th, 1920 my grandmother was born to Jeff & Ella Hayes Lynch. And y’all let me tell you, if the Lord ever put an angel on this earth, she was one of them.

Mama, Me, & Mamaw 1990

She was so dedicated to her family & friends. She went to church every time the doors were open & taught her kids to do the same. She was the backbone in our family. She, along with my grandfather, were upright, righteous, salt of the earth people. When she left this walk of life, I was heartbroken. She left me pieces of her jewelry. She left me the ability to cook. She left me a Christian example to follow. The main thing she left me was the knowledge of a Godly inheritance.  Her example was passed on to my mother, then to me & my brother. I am doing my best to pass the gift of the Lord’s salvation on to my children & grandchildren, too. I am going to do all I can to make sure believing in Jesus does not stop with me. I want to share the Word & what it can do for others. Especially with my family. Thankfully, Timothy had a Godly grandmother & mother that taught him about the Lord.

II Timothy 1:5

when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.

When you think of your walk with Christ, will your believing stop with you? Will you pass the love of the Lord to your kids? Or will the wonderful thing Christ did for us just be carelessly forgotten? Please don’t let the good news of Christ stop with you. Be personally responsible for letting it go through generations of your family.

Hebrews 2:3

…how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,

I hope you all are having a great week. Oh & by the way, that Easter weekend just flew by. We had grandkids & kids over. We had a fish fry & just enjoyed being together. My Dad came out for the fish fry. He’s doing some better. Prayers are appreciated! Sunday we went to church, per our usual, & then ate like pigs & hid Easter eggs for the grandkids. I hope you had a blessed Easter. Until next time, I have to be going because I have to be washing clothes.

Preach it brother & what happens if you ask a truck driver to church

Preach-The-Gospel-(Elder)

You know life has a funny way of doing things. Sometimes funny in a difficult way.  Other times funny in a, “Wow!  I wasn’t expecting that!” way.  Whatever the way, God has a plan.

This morning, a guy I work with, came to my office. He told me about meeting a driver, that had come in for a load.  He said yesterday, he had gone to a local eating establishment for breakfast.  While there, he commenced to talking to a guy from out of town.  He found out he was in town, because he was picking up a load at our company.   After having breakfast together, the new found friends parted ways.  As my co-worker walked to his truck, he thought, “I should have invited him to church.”  So he turned back around &  that’s just what he did.

The driver said, “I don’t have anything to wear.”

My co-worker kindly reassured him it really didn’t matter.  He told him he would give him an hour & he would come back & pick him up. The driver agreed & in an hour, they were sitting in church together.

What was so remarkable about that situation is my co-worker was ready. He was presented an opportunity & he acted on it.  What happens to a lot of us is we miss our times to present the Lord to people.  I know I am at fault of the “I wish I had said this or I wish I had done that,” when it comes to sharing the Lord.  And too, there are times we may do our daily Bible readings, go down our prayer list & pray, & may think- is this really doing any good?  Well, yeah.  We have to prepare ourselves for the times we run across someone who needs our help & encouragement.  That’s how the Lord uses us for His will.

keep calm

Mark 16:15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

Jesus came across a Samaritan woman who needed encouragement & salvation. It was just a normal day for this Samaritan woman.  That is until she met Jesus.

John 4: 7-9

A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.

Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.

10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

This lady was so intrigued. She wanted to hear more about this living water.  When Jesus was finished talking to her, she told anyone who would listen to her about her time with the Lord.

How do we know where we will find someone to share the good news of Jesus Christ with? Standing in line at the grocery store?  At the convenience store, where we get our gas?  At the fast food restaurant where we eat breakfast on Sunday??  God is working.  Whether we see it all the time or not.  He’s there, making plans, making things happen, for plain, ordinary folks like you, me & other people.  People that we may not even know, yet.

Which also brings me to share with you about to an awesome project, I am so excited to be a part of. Melanie over at Only a Breath has started a “Secret Sister” mission.  You can read about it here.

What it is , is a way to strengthen & encourage others- like total complete strangers.  It’s for ladies only, sorry fellas.  We shared our addresses & we are given 2 ladies addresses.  We send a handwritten note of encouragement & hope to that person at least once a month.  I got my addresses yesterday & I can’t wait to send my “Secret Sisters” a note.  This will be such a wonderful way to further the cause of Christ.

I am so proud of my friend for sharing Jesus. He truly blessed someone else,by his act of kindness.  You just never know when you will get a chance to make a friend.  Now you know what happens when you ask a truck driver to church.  Sometimes they will go with you!

I hope you are having a blessed week.  We had a busy weekend.  Miss Neenee had a friend sleepover.  Then, after church Sunday, I got to play with my grandbabies all day long!   We had an area wide youth devotional at church Sunday night.  There were 269 people in attendance.  God is so good to us.  Until next time, I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.

What would a weekend be without a good ol game of Chunk a Chicken?

What else can God do for me?

Sometimes I am not so grateful for things.  I think it’s easy to do, sometimes.  When you are working & living normal every day life, things can get mundane.  At the check out line at the grocery store, I am conscious of how much it takes to feed my family.  It takes a lot just to pay the power & water bill.  Then, comes the car payments, insurance, gas, taxes, & all the other things we think we can’t live without! I sit & talk to God & ask why other people, who are not trying to live according to His will, how they can seem so much better off than my family.  I think about what we do have- a roof over our heads, food in our stomach, clothes on our back.  It occurs to me that I must learn contentment.  Instead of asking God, “Why can’t You do more for me?”  I need to be saying “Thank You” for sending Your Son, who died on the cross for my sins.   God has promised us  the hope of eternal salvation- for those who obey His will.

Act 2:38 Then Peter said to them, Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

We have  an aunt who has been through a lot here lately.  She has just finished treatments for Lymphoma.  She also had part of her colon removed.  Now, she has blood clots, that she has been hospitalized for.  I talked to her today & she was in the best spirits.  She was excited that she was getting to go home from the hospital.  During this process, she has made friends with the nurses, that are taking care of her.  She laughed & said, “Yes, they all know me on a first name basis here (hospital).”  I told her what a strong person she was.  She said that through everything that had happened to her, she had never been scared or upset.  She said she knew God was with her & she was at peace. What a wonderful thing to be sure of!  God did not promise us days without pain.  He did promise us peace, comfort, & strength for tomorrow.

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me all you that labor & are heavy laden & I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart & you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Philippians 4:7 and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts & minds through Christ Jesus.

So, as I sit fretting about all my problems- I can find comfort in knowing I have a God that’s bigger than all of that!   Instead of using prayer as a wish list to gain more material things, I need to thank God for what I have.  Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in what the world portrays as what you should have.  I just need to remember to quit thinking about what else God can do for me.  I need to remember the blessings of life, salvation, & peace, that’s already been given to me freely.

Thanks so much for stopping by to visit with me today.  I have to be going now, because I should be washing clothes…..
