Why we have pain & suffering & yes, I’m a band wagoner

godDo you ever ponder the question why? Why do we have pain & suffering?  Why do bad things happen to good people?  Why are there starving people?  If God is all He says He is, then why do all these terrible things exist?  I think I found out.

This morning, I was listening to Matthew 26 & 27, on the way to work. The scripture was at the point where Jesus was prepping his disciples of what is fixing to happen to Him.  Jesus was getting ready to suffer beyond belief.  Not only was He going to be crucified on a cross for our sins, His very best friends in the world, were one by one turning their backs on Him.  Judas betrayed Him. (Matt. 26:25)  Peter denied Him. (Matt. 26:74)

The other disciples ran off & left Him.

Matthew 26:56 ….. Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled.

And now, He was being hung on a cross.  Jesus begged God to rethink His plan.  But, ended up praying

Matthew 26:42 ….“O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.”(NKJV)

I think I’ve got problems.  My problems will never match up to what Jesus had going on.  I haven’t ever been treated the way Christ was.  So, I start to ask myself

“Where was God?”

Why did He let this awful thing happen to His own Son?  It was God’s plan to save mankind.  He knew what He was doing.  Why does God allow bad things happen in the world?  It’s in His plan. Job said in

Job 2:10 Shall we indeed accept good from God & shall we not accept adversity?(NKJV)

We are so willing to take all the goodness God gives. However, just can’t understand when bad things come our way.  God gave His only Son for our sins.  He let Jesus go through some awful things.  Remember that then next time you ask God, “Why me?”  Why not you?  He crucified His own Son for our own good.  He may let some less than pleasing things happen to us, for our greater good.  It’s all in His plan.  He has promised He will never allow satan to tempt us over & beyond what we are able to handle. The apostle Paul wrote in

I Corinthians 10:13

 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

We have to trust in God to take care of us. Even in the worst times, we have to have enough faith to say, “I have some big problems, but I have a really big God that’s going to see me through it.”  Always remember, God promised us a safe landing, not an easy passage.  He allowed His own Son to die on a cross.  I am fairly certain that turned out pretty good for me & you, huh? That was God’s plan.  We just have to trust Him.  He’s got this.

I hope you have had a good week.  We had a wonderful time with my family in Oxford, Mississippi, this past weekend.  We may or may not have had the biggest tailgating tent at the entire Ole Miss campus.  Just sayin’, it was pretty fabulous.  Normally, I could care less who is playing ball.  But this year, yep, I’m on the band wagon! :)I love being with my family.  I got home just in time to be with more of my family.  This grandparent gig we have going on is the cat’s pajamas.  We play all day & it’s a good thing.  I always get a wonderful night’s sleep on Sunday.  (Not that it has to do with all the running around those kids have me doing.)  Until next time, I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.

Time change is for the birds & my secret sister

Ooohhh, the time change……..Really, is this change necessary? I mean, at work Monday around 2:30pm, I thought it was time for me to go home.  Imagine my surprise.  Since, I work until 5pm, that was definitely upsetting for me.  Next time they take a vote for cancelling daylight savings time, will someone let me know?  I perhaps have a strong opinion about it.  Thanks ya’ll.  Because time change is hard.

Isn’t it wonderful the love of the Lord never changes? It is a very constant thing for those who are His.  Do you wonder sometimes if Jesus still cares? He does.  He never changes. We all get discouraged.  We all have struggles.  It’s every day, for some of us.  Not just occasionally.  It is nearing the time of year that is, harder than normal, for us folks who have lost loved ones.  Times come when you feel you just can’t go on.  It may be the loss of a job, loss of a loved one, a divorce, or sickness, whether it be you or someone you care about.  Things happen.  Things that we don’t plan for.  Change happens.  But, I am here with some good news, the Lord is here for us.  The whole time.  Not just for the parts that are easy.  He will be with you as long as you will let Him.  He wants us all to have a home in heaven.  Now, that’s a change I am happy about.  I will gladly change my earthly address in exchange for a heavenly home.

David talks about his own troubling times in Psalms 30. David had a man killed, so that he could take his wife.  David & his new wife had a baby & the baby died. (II Samuel 12)  David was so full of grief.  He called on God.  He knew His love was there.  Never changing.

Psalms 30: 2

Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me. v. 3 You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit. (NKJV)

The Lord obviously loved David. He was right there for him.  Even though David did wrong, God came back to him, when he repented.

Psalms 30:5

For his anger lasts only a moment,  but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.(NKJV)

Have you ever stayed up at night & wanted relief? Didn’t things look much better in the morning?  David found favor with God.  God made sure he was there for David.  Why?  Because God’s just awesome like that.  He’s a dependable.  He never changes.  And after the baby died, David went to worship the Lord.  David was changed.  He knew the same Lord that allowed bad things to happen to him, was the same Lord that blessed him.  He knew God was going to take care of everything.  And He did.

Preach it brother & what happens if you ask a truck driver to church

You know life has a funny way of doing things. Sometimes funny in a difficult way.  Other times funny in a, “Wow!  I wasn’t expecting that!” way.  Whatever the way, God has a plan.

This morning, a guy I work with, came to my office. He told me about meeting a driver, that had come in for a load.  He said yesterday, he had gone to a local eating establishment for breakfast.  While there, he commenced to talking to a guy from out of town.  He found out he was in town, because he was picking up a load at our company.   After having breakfast together, the new found friends parted ways.  As my co-worker walked to his truck, he thought, “I should have invited him to church.”  So he turned back around &  that’s just what he did.

The driver said, “I don’t have anything to wear.” 

My co-worker kindly reassured him it really didn’t matter.  He told him he would give him an hour & he would come back & pick him up. The driver agreed & in an hour, they were sitting in church together.

What was so remarkable about that situation is my co-worker was ready. He was presented an opportunity & he acted on it.  What happens to a lot of us is we miss our times to present the Lord to people.  I know I am at fault of the “I wish I had said this or I wish I had done that,” when it comes to sharing the Lord.  And too, there are times we may do our daily Bible readings, go down our prayer list & pray, & may think- is this really doing any good?  Well, yeah.  We have to prepare ourselves for the times we run across someone who needs our help & encouragement.  That’s how the Lord uses us for His will.

Jesus came across a Samaritan woman who needed encouragement & salvation. It was just a normal day for this Samaritan woman.  That is until she met Jesus.

John 4: 7-9

A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.

Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.

10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

This lady was so intrigued. She wanted to hear more about this living water.  When Jesus was finished talking to her, she told anyone who would listen to her about her time with the Lord.

How do we know where we will find someone to share the good news of Jesus Christ with? Standing in line at the grocery store?  At the convenience store, where we get our gas?  At the fast food restaurant where we eat breakfast on Sunday??  God is working.  Whether we see it all the time or not.  He’s there, making plans, making things happen, for plain, ordinary folks like you, me & other people.  People that we may not even know, yet.

What it is , is a way to strengthen & encourage others- like total complete strangers.  It’s for ladies only, sorry fellas.  We shared our addresses & we are given 2 ladies addresses.  We send a handwritten note of encouragement & hope to that person at least once a month.  I got my addresses yesterday & I can’t wait to send my “Secret Sisters” a note.  This will be such a wonderful way to further the cause of Christ.

I am so proud of my friend for sharing Jesus. He truly blessed someone else,by his act of kindness.  You just never know when you will get a chance to make a friend.  Now you know what happens when you ask a truck driver to church.  Sometimes they will go with you!

I hope you are having a blessed week.  We had a busy weekend.  Miss Neenee had a friend sleepover.  Then, after church Sunday, I got to play with my grandbabies all day long!   We had an area wide youth devotional at church Sunday night.  There were 269 people in attendance.  God is so good to us.  Until next time, I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.

I am so fortunate & blessed to be surrounded by good people.  And when I say good, I mean Godly folks.  I come from a family full of Christians.  My church family is wonderful, as well.  It is such a great feeling to know my blood kin are related to me through Christ, too.  My Sunday School teacher made such a terrific point Sunday about our relationship with Jesus.  He posed the question,

“Ain’t it wonderful to be blood kin to Christ?”

He went on to say that we are made “kin” to Jesus through His blood that He shed on the cross.  We come into contact with that blood through baptism.  I always knew that, but it was a nice warm fuzzy reminder that Christ is my blood kin.

Matthew 26:28 (NKJV)  For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Acts 2:38 (NKJV) “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost

Ephesians 1:7 (NKJV) In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

 

In the South, we take kinfolk pretty seriously.  We take care of our own.  We love our own.  We are proud of our own.  We are loyal to our own.  It doesn’t matter if one of our relatives is a little off or strange.  We just shake our heads & say bless their heart.

I remember very well the Sundays growing up.  My Daddy was the preacher.  So, we got up & went to church every Sunday.  We worshipped with my grandparents, aunts, uncles, & cousins.  We ate Sunday dinner, that my Mamaw fixed, every Sunday.   She cooked fried chicken every Sunday.  Her table was full of peas, potatoes, slaw, casseroles, deviled eggs, homemade pickles, cornbread & whatever else this sweet lady came up with.  She always made a cake, a cobbler, or some sort of delicious dessert type dish.  It did not matter what you had going on.  If you weren’t there for Sunday dinner, well, let’s just say she did NOT understand.  Also, she made such a big dinner so that if a visitor showed up at church, she could invite them over.  My Mamaw was just awesome like that.

Blood kin means a lot to me.  That’s where I feel safe & secure. My Mamaw’s brother, my great uncle would hug us kids up, every Sunday.  He would say,

“Ya’ll my kinfolks.”

As I get older, I love knowing about my ancestors & where I came from.  I have pictures of my great grandparents hanging in my house.  I look into their eyes & there I see who I am.  It’s an interesting thing to know what you are made of.  From a religious standpoint, I am made up of my blood kin- Jesus.  I love that!  I just want others to see less of me, in me, & more of Jesus.  That’s the kind of resemblance I want to have.

I am so glad you came by to visit with me today.  Thank ya’ll for always listening to me & what I think.  The weather has turned back off H-O-T.  It rained & stormed some this weekend.  Since then, it’s been so muggy.  I think we are making up for the nice weather we got in July.  Ne’er a summer passes in Mississippi without hot, humid, can’t let the kids out outside to play kind of weather.  Before I go, Miss Neenee came home & asked could she be in the chess club at school.  Since she does not actively play chess, I asked the crazy question,

“What made you interested in the chess club?”

She matter of factly replied, “Well, that’s the only club they have for us.”

Oh well, then.  Looks like we will be learning to play chess.  Until then, I will be going because I should be washing clothes.

As I get older, my life gets more full & blessed.  I am so thankful for the people in my life.  I am so glad our family is close knit & loving.  Even though my daughter is married, with a baby & my middle daughter has a busy life, we still can’t hardly go to town without calling each other to see if the other one wants to go.  Just the other day, I asked my 10 year old daughter if she ever felt like I didn’t give her enough attention.  You know I got these grandbabies, now, that we just gush over.  Then, the older girls, my 2 sons, my daughter in law, my sweet husband & I try to keep up with my Daddy, as well.  I work full time, teach a Bible class at church, try to keep a house, cook, clean (sorta) & sometimes, after all that, I feel like she may get a little left behind.  But when I asked her if she felt left out, she looked at me in utter surprise.

She said,

“No, I love my life.  I couldn’t imagine it any other way.”   

Whew,nailed it.

Isn’t that what we all strive with our kids? We just want them to feel safe, loved, & well, happy.  Now, ask her how happy she is when she can’t keep Mr. Sweetie Pants out of her room messing with all her stuff & you may get another answer!

Nonetheless, with my big family, something is always going on.  Ne’er a dull moment.  My oldest daughter got her degree in May (Yay!)  She has gone to work for a school district.  They had a 2 day kindergarten camp with the kids to get them ready for the school year.  She said there was one little boy that was a mess.  On the first day, he kept asking her,

 “Miss K.K. do you want a piece of me?”

 She kindly reassured him, she did not.

On Tuesday she finally had to get on to him.  She said,

“If you don’t stop doing that, you are going to have to come stand beside me & hold my hand.  Do you want to have to come hold my hand?” 

He sweetly replied, “Maybe.”

Looks like she will have her hands full & heart full by the end of the school year!

I am so proud of my daughter & her love of children.  Her grandmother loved children, too.

We should be ever mindful of these little fellows.  They have an innocence & trustful, loving, heart just like we should have.  Those are the kinds of things that will get us a 1st class ticket to be with Jesus.

My sweet helper & Someone who needs no help

My little girl loves to help.  She especially loves to help me & her Daddy cook.  She has become quite the baker.  She got cupcake pans, cake pans, and a lot of bakery paraphernalia for Christmas last year.  I have to say she has put it to good use.  She loves to help her Daddy in food prep for the grilling he does.  She has her hands in the muffin mix & can peel boiled eggs like nobody’s business.  I love having her around to help me out.

Do you know there is Somebody who does not need my help?  That would be the Lord.  You see, He is quite capable of doing whatever He deems necessary, without my input.  Sometimes it’s easy to try to compare ourselves to others.

I think, “What should I be doing about this or that?” 

You know what?  Jesus has it all handled.  There are times, I just need to have faith & sit back & let Him have his way.  Isn’t that hard, though?  When you pray & want a situation, a person, or a relationship, to be like you want it all to be- it may not always come out exactly like you had it envisioned.

So, I get to thinking, “How can I make this better?” 

Next, I may do or say something that doesn’t help the situation at all.

Or I may think, “I’m doing all I can do to be a Christian.  Why, then, are things going so great for this one over here, that’s well, not?”

Again, I need to remember, the Lord doesn’t need my help.  Just because I don’t see Him working behind the scenes, does not mean He is not.

The apostle Peter found out Jesus does not need our help either.  He questioned the Lord about the person He had predicted would betray Him.  It’s not said why Peter wanted to know who it was.  Maybe curiosity was getting the best of him.  Or maybe he wanted to help or protect his friend from someone.  Jesus let him know right quick that He had it handled.

John 21

20 Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?” 21 Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?”

22 Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.”

23 Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?”

Peter’s attention needed to be focused on following Jesus.  The Lord had a much bigger agenda for Peter than worrying about who was going to wrong Him.  Jesus was pretty much trying to tell him,

“What business is it of yours?”

 I need to remember that.  I need to make sure my focus is on Jesus.  Not on who is wronging me, who has a nicer house than me, or who makes more money than me.  Jesus was trying to tell Peter & He is trying to tell me to have faith in Him & I won’t have anything to worry about.  When the worries & stresses of this ol’ world try to beat us down, we have got to remember Who we have on our side.  Even when we don’t realize it, He is working in our lives for good.

Easter fun

Easter can get pretty crazy at my house. Oh we do the usual stuff. We go to church & just like every Sunday, celebrate the death, burial, & resurrection of Jesus. Then, we come home & eat a bountiful lunch. Our family comes over & we hide & hunt Easter eggs. This year, I don’t know if it’s because I did too much hiding & hunting Easter eggs, but Lord have mercy, I got out of my car at work Monday & I was sore! It’s because of all the crazy activities at my house. I just know it.  Or it may or may not have been all of the peanut butter fudge I ate. The jury’s still out on that one.

Improving your life

I am always glad to find new ways to make my life better.  I like inspirational quotes & reading articles about self improvement.  We are a work in progress, ya know!  We should never stop improving. (Wait, did I just sound like a Lowe’s commercial?)  When it comes to ourselves we ought to always be looking for ways to be better.  With the new year, it seemed appropriate to visit this for a minute.

I read an article the other day on the Lifehack website.  It is called 7 Harsh Truths That Will Improve Your Life.  To get the full article go here.  However, today I want to pass along a few things that really hit home for me.  Number one on the list is this:

1.  No one is going to fix you.

It states “It is in your own personal interest to take personal responsibility for your own life.”  Have you ever seen people who were never wrong?  Even when they were wrong, well, if it weren’t for so and so doing such and such things would have never gotten out of hand.  They spend their time trying to justify their wrong doing by pointing the finger at someone else.  Nothing has ever been their fault.  When in fact they are cowards.  They just have a hard time owning up to anything.  Not only is this toxic for the person in question, it is poison for their family & those around them.  Most of the time, these are angry people.  They are not easily satisfied.  They are controlling.  They are rude & generally unhappy people.  They are waiting for something or someone to swoop in & make things all better.  Here is the harsh truth, until these folks decide within themselves to take responsibility for their actions, they will always be broken.

My mama would say,

“You’d better get your life in order, if you want the Lord to bless you.”

  At this point in my life, I get that.

 

Luke 16: 10-11 says He who is faithful in what is least, is faithful also in much, and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.  Therefore, if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 

Jesus was talking about finances & money in this passage.  But it can be plugged in to your life as a whole.  If you don’t make your relationships, your Christian walk with Christ, your heart right, why would God give you more opportunities than you already have?  If you can’t take care of those simple things, I just bet He’s not going to bless you with more- until you learn to make right what He’s already given to you.

My Mamaw used to say,

“You better clean off your own doorstep, before you start tryin’ to clear off mine.”

Meaning, if you busy yourself with keeping your own life in order, you will never have time to be throwing off on someone else.  This year, I pray the Lord will help me to take care of the areas in my life that need attention.  That I will not blame others for my problems.  And that I will take responsibility for what comes out of my mouth & how I treat others.   In Galatians 5:23 the apostle Paul gives self control as a commandment, not a suggestion.  There will always be those who can’t come to grips with taking personal charge of what they say & do.  I have heard people say, “Well, she may do that, but she is going to know what I think about it.”  Followed by ranting & raving that never makes a bit of difference.  You know what?  Most of the time, people don’t care what we think.  All the hissy fits in the world ain’t gonna make a difference.  Why in the world would you waste your energy that way?  Turn that negative energy into something healthy & productive.

A strong positive attitude will create more miracles than any wonder drug. – Patricia Neal

Developing a strong positive attitude is a step toward fixing yourself.  The world is full of discouragement & complaints, heartaches & pain.  Confront whatever it is that is making you mentally unhealthy & make 2014 a year of freedom from bad thoughts, worries, & struggles.  Pray about it & then take action.  Right wrongs, forgive others, ask for forgiveness, & let go of resentment.  It just ain’t worth it.

I am so happy you decided to stop by for a while.  I hope & pray you have had a wonderful new year’s holiday.  I ate my blackeyed peas, turnip greens, and hog jowl.  Bring on 2014!  I am ready!  For now,  I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.

Move over Miley, Phil Robertson’s takin’ center stage

I just could not hold it in any longer.  I have not had a chance to sit down & write this post as quickly as I wanted to.  However, it gave me a chance to hear what other people are having to say about Phil Robertson’s comments in his GQ interview.

First I want to say to Phil Robertson,

“Phil, really?  You are doing an interview with GQ & did not expect this?  You are a smart man. How were you not on guard for this one?  And what really possessed you to do an interview with GQ?  You make duck calls & preach.  Not really what GQ is about.  What were you thinking? ”

There, saying that, people of this day & time have grown so tolerant of sin.  We are a society of not wanting to hurt anybody’s feelings.  Well, I’m all for not hurting feelings, but wrong is wrong.  And until people are called out on it, it won’t ever be any better.  Sexual sins seem to be one of the things people are more accepting of.  However, God wasn’t.  Remember Sodom & Gomorrah?  (Genesis 19) It was destroyed, with fire falling from the sky.  It was burned up because of their sexual immorality.  Not just homosexual activity, but all immoral acts of a sexual nature.  The word sodomy is referred to as sexual acts with a beast (animal).  Do you think there is any connection there?  It would seem so.  Just because God is not setting fire to cities & turning people into pillars of salt anymore (like he did Lot’s wife for looking back- when God told them to leave Sodom & Gomorrah & not look back) does not mean He’s become soft in his old age.  He’s not looking over anything.  He still does not like it.  A little over 2,000 years ago He continued to say that through the apostle Paul.

 I Corinthians 6:9-11

 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

And such were some of you:

but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Galatians 5:19-21

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Why do you think Paul was talking about this to the churches at Corinth & Galatia?  They needed to be given some instructions concerning it.  We need to hear it now, too.   Jesus said some people would not be willing to accept God’s word.

Luke 16:31

And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
And you know the rest of the story- Jesus was hung on a cross because crowds of people did not want to hear what he had to say.  So, this is not something that’s a big surprise or not expected from those of the world.  One thing that does help my feelings is the Cracker Barrel situation.  When they decided to pull Duck Dynasty from their shelves, people stood for right.  That lets me know the Lord still has righteous people here.  Things might not be as bad as the devil wants us to believe they are.

I don’t consider myself a hater, because I believe what the Bible says about homosexuals.  I know people who are openly gay.  I have worked with a man who was gay.  He was a truck driver & his friend would ride in the truck with him on runs.  I became quick friends with both of them.  They were easy going & had great personalities.  We always got along great.  But you know what?  They knew where I stood on their lifestyle choices.  I did not accept it, but I accepted them.  They knew what they were doing wasn’t right, however, chose not to address it.  It hurts me to think anyone would ever be mean to either of them.  Love the sinner, hate the sin.

My thing is you have all this sin out in the world.  The world wants us to accept it & not take away sinner’s rights.  How about my right to disagree?  Sin is evil in all forms.  And as Phil Robertson said, “it’s not logical.”  God created the family as man & woman.

Genesis 2:24

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 

God said this right after making woman for man.  We have a responsibility, as Christians to keep it this way.

It’s funny to me that murderers aren’t standing around saying,

“I know I kill people, but you should just accept that.  That’s how God made me.  And if you don’t you aren’t a Christian because God wants us to love each other.” 

Or plug into it a thief, “I may steal from innocent people, but this is what I want to do, so you just need to accept me how I am, a thief.” 

Or what about a child molester? 

You may say, ”wait a minute, you are getting off subject, now.”  No, not really sin is sin in God’s eyes.  Sins come with different responsibilities.  If I say I like your dress, but really would not wear it to the garden- the responsibility for getting caught telling such a lie, is not near what it would be for another sin.  Like if you decided to rob banks.  But lying is a deadly sin. too.

And look at poor ol’ Miley Cyrus.  I just want to put some clothes on her & stripe her legs with a switch.  But you can’t say anything about her & all her antics, because she’s expressing herself.

The phenomenon with the reality shows with the likes of the Kardashian’s who can’t have babies or pee their pants without the camera right there for us all to see, has become as crazy as a Bessie Bug.  We can listen to these housewives in cat fights, cussin’, spittin’, & spattin’ at each other all in the name of entertainment.  Then, Phil can’t quote scripture without losing his job.

Bless our hearts. 

We would all be better if we would take that remote & hit the off button.   And pray for these people.  At the end of the day, I would rather gather my family around the table with the Robertson family than any other reality family.  roberson's prayingI really think A & E is just seeing dollar signs, when they look at the Robertson’s.  They are on a reality show, but A & E does not want their reality of praying, following Christ, nor offending others.  Newsflash, sin is offensive.  When you disagree with sin, you get more hurt feelings, because you aren’t supporting their sin.  And everybody loves their sin, don’t they?  Nobody wants anyone calling them out about it.  That’s why people don’t usually go to church unless they are ready to be held accountable for their sins.  As you already know, at church you hear all about what’s right & wrong.  Sometimes it’s not so easy to hear.

If you are gay, I don’t hate you.  I pray for your repentance & turning back to God’s will.  I don’t judge you because I sin, too.  But we can’t let sin rule our lives.  I think that’s what Phil was trying to say.  However, we need to read the Bible, see what Jesus says & don’t stand for Phil, stand for Jesus.  Because Phil is just a man.

***On a side note, I may have a tone that I don’t appreciate Phil & his preaching the gospel.  I do think it noble of Phil to spread the gospel.  However, we have to remember Phil is just a man.  There was only one perfect man, Jesus Christ.  Everyone else has flaws & sins.  My Daddy is a preacher of the gospel, as well.  One thing he has taught me is you don’t follow the preacher.  You follow Jesus.  Phil is a messenger, not the Messiah.  Always make sure what the preacher is preaching is from Bible.  Satan will creep in wherever he can.

How to make it in a hard time

Sometimes when I have a problem, I let it take me over.  It’s all I think about.  I just can’t get it off my mind.  I want to talk about it, whine about it, be a bit dramatic about it, contemplate “why me”, &  so forth & so on.  I walk around with a cloud over my head, tensed up, perhaps not very friendly, & then inside the pit of my stomach, it starts to burn.  I begin to feel bad all over.  I get to thinking nobody has had this bad of a situation EVER! Then, I hear a voice in the back of my head, (which is my mama, God rest her soul).  She always would tell me,

“Get ahold of yourself.” 

Now, what does that mean, you may ask?  Well, my sweet southern mama had her fair share of problems.  At what most of us call mid-life, she found out she had Multiple Sclerosis.  For years, she fought this disease with such grace.  She never relented or let on that she had given in to what life had set before her.  She “got ahold” of herself & the life changing event & did not let it overtake her, as a person.  It’s so funny.  We respected her & loved her so much, that even being bedfast, she still told us all what to do.  And we did it, because even though her body was weak, the fire the Lord put down in her was not.  She showed us that even though you are right in the middle of a bad situation, it does not have to take ahold of you.  Morals & character surface when troubles make themselves present.  Let me tell you, my mama had strong Christian convictions & proved to us that living it was the only way to survive.  She never held a pity party for long.  She encouraged us to follow suit.  No matter how out of sorts things got, with the MS, she showed us the Lord had a plan.  She strongly believed He was the healer.  She did what the doctors said, but in the end, she showed us God has the last say.  The message was when you live for the Lord, no problem you have is too big for Him.  There is nothing that you & Him can’t handle.  No matter what happens it’s for the greater good.  We may not see it right then.  However, it’s God’s time, not ours.

There were some people in the Bible that thought they had problems.  One that comes right to mind is Peter.

Peter denied Christ. 

Jesus told him by the time the rooster crowed, he would deny Him three times.  (Matthew 26:34) Peter thought that was crazy talk.  Until it happened.  Historically, it is said, the 3rd time Peter denied Jesus, Peter looked across the way & locked eyes with the Lord.  If that is true, can you imagine what a rush of shame must have come over him?  After that he went out & wept bitterly. (Matthew 26:75)  Not just a silent, tearful, moment, but bawlin’ his eyes out.   Don’t you reckon Peter thought he had created himself a big problem?  Poor Peter, I’m glad the story did not end there.  Peter got through that awful experience & went on to serve the Lord with great eagerness.  He did not let a tragedy paralyze him in the work Jesus needed him to do.  He repented, “got ahold of himself” & went on.   Thank goodness there is life after problems.

When Mama was sick, we thought we had problems.  Big, huge, frightening problems that we did not know how to handle.  But you know what happened?  Every time we turned around, there was someone there willing to help.  Sometimes it was someone sharing their story to let us know they had also been through a similar trial, so we would not feel like we were in this by ourselves.  Sometimes it was a homemade cake or meal cooked.  Sometimes it was a wonderful helper to relieve us & sit with Mama while we tended to other things.  Sometimes it was a friend with a listening ear.  In the whole ordeal with her, I never remember feeling like we were alone.  It gave us a greater thankfulness & faith in humanity & how God works through people.  It strengthened our faith in the Lord, as well.  Would we have learned & appreciated all of this, had we not been through this experience?  I’m going to say probably not.  Was it a wonderful & beautiful thing?  Well, if you would have asked me that back in the middle of all of it, I would have absolutely said no.  Now, though, I see so many blessings that came out of it, I just can’t keep it to myself!  In this storm of life that came our way, I want everyone to know how good God was to us.

Today, I hope you know if you are struggling with a problem, you are not alone.  I am here to tell you everybody on the face of this Earth has a struggle.  If someone says they don’t, don’t you believe them!  We are here to help each other.  If you stretch out your hand to help someone, you will be blessed for it, as well.  Sometimes it can be hard to admit we have things in our lives that are not so great.  However, when we open up, we find a whole lot of support from people, that we never would have imagined.  As Christians, we are not told we won’t have problems.  We are just given the tools to know how to handle them.  What can you do to help someone?  Start by smiling at someone today.  That may just be all it takes to melt their heart & make their day more bearable.

I have so enjoyed you stopping by today.  I hope you are getting that menu ready for your Thanksgiving dinner.  We will be hosting another breakfast & dinner at our house, for our family & friends.  There are 13 of us now (that just includes my husband, kids & their families)   I just can’t put that off on somebody else to try & feed us!  My brother & his family will be coming from a faraway land, 200 miles south of us, as well.  Miss Neenee has only asked 241 times when her cousins will be getting here.  I hope each & every one of you have a happy & healthy Thanksgiving holiday.  As for me, I have to be going now, because I should be washing clothes.
