What to do when you encounter a mountain lion (angry person) & SUMMER

Hey y’all! I hope you have had a great day. I ran across a blog post of mine from awhile ago. I don’t know about you, but does it seem the world is angrier than it’s ever been? I know I can hardly drive down the road without somebody around me experiencing road rage. People at stores hardly smile. It seems like people are just in a bad mood about something. This blog post is a little lengthy. But I think it covers, very well, what to do when you encounter a mountain lion (angry person). Because we all encounter these creatures from one time or another. To read the post click here.

We are having a very eventful summer. Miss Neenee is practicing basketball & cheer. Plus going to camps. I got this snapchat earlier. Apparently, her discontent of getting up at 5 a.m. is not hampered by her excitement of being with her buds.

We had Vacation Bible School at church Saturday. It was so fun! The kids’ enthusiasm was awesome. They are definitely “On Fire For God” (which was our theme).

For more on this visit our Facebook page here.

I’m so glad you stopped by to visit with me today. We are into full swing with summer. What are your plans? I would love to hear about them. Until next time I have to be going, because I should be washing clothes.

I knew 2 of the lottery winners!

powerball

With all the hoopla about the lottery this past week, I wanted to let y’all know, I knew 2 of the people that won the lottery. I really didn’t think about it until I talked to my cousin.  We had a good friend, who was like family to us, pass away last week.  I was talking to my aunt’s granddaughter.

She said,

On Monday I told my grandmother we need to go buy a lottery ticket. Then, we found out about her friend.  I was over here worrying about winning the lottery, when he won the real lottery,  He got to go home to be with Jesus.”

Tears flowed & we agreed that was the best lottery there was.

There was another sweet lady, that I had grown up knowing, that passed away, also. She was a school teacher, my school bus driver, an author, a mother, a grandmother, & wonderful Christian.  As long as she could go, she was always at church.  Another lottery winner.

It all made me think of this scripture:

Matthew 16:26

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

I am so proud for these “lottery winners” this week. They finally gained their home in heaven.  I talked to my uncle & aunt, while at the funeral home.  My uncle pointed out that he hated to see our friend go, however it was an appointment all of us were going to make.  I pray all of us will be ready to make that appointment.  We never know when it will be.  However, as long as we hold that lottery ticket in our hand, we still have time to prepare.  Every day God gives us breath, we have the chance to live for Him.  So, let’s do all we can, daily, to be sure we are prepared to have that big win with the lottery one day.

I hope everyone has had a blessed weekend & are ready for a cold week ahead. It was a balmy 21 degrees in our neck of the woods this morning.  Miss Neenee has started basketball.  I will post some pictures on that soon.  She’s already had a couple of games.  I am so proud of her.  Until next time, I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.

weekend again

Yes, weekend again, please.

And these two.  I can’t even begin to describe the vast amounts of sweetness in this picture.

Raising a peacemaker & this is what my Thanksgiving looked like

nurses_office_1018

The other day, I got a phone call from the school.  It was my Miss Neenee.  She began telling me she was in the nurse’s office.  (Which from my experience, has never turned out good.)

She said she had been hit by a boy in P.E. They were playing basketball.  They were both going up to catch the ball.  The boy slammed into her, to get the ball. Then, the ball hit her in the face.  All of that commotion broke her glasses & left a cut on her eyebrow.

broken glasses

She started by telling me,

“Mama, I’m in the nurse’s office.  I cut my eye playing ball & broke my glasses.”

“You cut your eye?  Your eyeball?”  I was just a smidge panicked.

“No, the outside close to my eyebrow.  And it’s bleeding.” She said.

“It’s bleeding???” Now, full blown anxiety & confusion has set in.  And apparently, I sounded too frantic, because the nurse got on the phone.

The kind nurse reassured me she was not bleeding profusely.  That she took a lick on the eye & her glasses were broken.  She put the Miss back on the phone.  I asked her did she need to be picked up & she did not.

After we got home, I asked her, “Who was this boy & what did you do when you got hit?”

Well, first she cried.  Then, she went to the nurse’s office (accompanied by one of her besties, no less).

“What happened with the little boy?” I pressed.

“He kept saying he was sorry & he said he would buy me some new glasses.” She said

“Well, what did you do to him?”  I quizzed.

“Umm, nothing.  He said he was sorry.  A bunch.”  She replied.

Really?  No big throw down?  No show down amongst the 5th & 6th grader P.E. students?  If it had of been me, I would have probably had to smack some heads.  You can’t push somebody around & get by with it.  Then, I thought about what Jesus said, in His sermon on the mount:

Matthew 5:9

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. (ESV)

Matthew 5:38-39

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. (ESV)

By Miss Neenee just letting it go, she became a peacemaker, like Jesus is talking about there in verse 9.  She passed on the opportunity to retaliate.   She turned the other cheek.  Perhaps I could learn a lesson here.  Maybe we all could.  Keep your temper & anger in check.  It’s what Jesus would want us to do.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  We most certainly did.  I was off work for 4 days.  Out of those 4 days I saw my kids & grandkids every day.  That’s a lot of happiness for me.  I even got to keep my grandbabies for some of that time.  Fun was had by all.  I hope you have a wonderful week.  As for me, I have to be going because I should be washing clothes.

Basketball love

We in the South love our sports.  We go by the Proverb of old, from the Bible that says,

“Train up a child to play sports & when he is old, he will not depart from the lessons he has learned from it.”  .

That’s not how that goes?  Well, you could have fooled me! Saying that, it’s basketball season.   Miss Neenee is playing basketball for the first time.  She loves it.  Her best friend, in the whole wide world, plays.  That just makes it that much sweeter!

IMG_0039

We see a lot of the same parents that we play softball with.  Over the course of years you get acquainted with the other parents.  Maybe not know them well, or outside of whatever sports function you are attending.  But, know who their kids are, where they work, go to church, & who they are kin to.  Anyway, we get excited.  We clap loud.  We coach from the stands.  We yell at our kids.  We yell at other people’s kids.  It’s all good.

Let me tell you about an incident that happened to me recently.

The other night our 3rd & 4th grade girl team was lining up for a free throw with the opposing team.  Miss Neenee had been running & working hard & doing her little 4th grade best at this game.  This is the age where the referee still has to tell the girls to dribble the ball.  It’s not a high expectation type thing.  Everything is pretty laid back as far as the rules.  Miss Neenee was lining up at the goal line, when she turns around & looks at me.  She starts fiddlin’ with her necklace.  She runs over to the stands & I take it off of her right quick.  One of the mamas yells,

“This is a ballgame not a beauty review!”

There was another girl that had run up to the stands to give her mama something, too.  So, I didn’t really think much about it.  Once the game was over, this same mama walks over to me & said she hoped I wasn’t mad at her.  She said she was sorry, she had just yelled out before she thought.  I smiled & told her I wasn’t worried about it.  She said her husband told her she might not have said that.  So, she wanted to make sure I wasn’t upset.  I just laughed & told her I had yelled at her daughter, on the court, enough that night, that it was quite alright.  We smiled & parted ways.

You know what I thought after that encounter?  That I really liked that mama.  Her character was just what the Lord said it should have been.  She said something she felt wasn’t right.  Then, she faced it & took care of the problem right then.  I wish I were more like that.  Most of time, if I will say or do something, that’s not right, I lull over it.  That’s right.  I’m a luller.  I drag my feet.   I don’t take action to right the wrong as quickly as I should.  Time goes by & things get better or they don’t.  Why do I wait?  I don’t know.  Maybe a little pride.  Maybe a little not wanting to be wrong.   So, I just let things sit.  We are not perfect.  We all say & do things not pleasing to God.

This is what Jesus had to say about righting wrongs.

Matthew 5:23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;

v. 24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift

I want to be more like this mama that knows the right thing to do & does it.  How much better would the world be without bitter feelings & resentment over hateful things others say?  When we say something hurtful, if we went to the persons involved immediately & apologized & made things better it would be more beneficial for everybody.  However, not everyone cares or is big enough to say they are sorry.  When that happens we are still responsible for forgiving that person.  Whether they ask for it or not.  If not, hatred & bitterness can set up in our hearts, just like it has theirs.  Don’t let those things rule your heart.  You have got to have control over your thoughts, actions, and what comes out of your mouth.  However, we are just people.  So, when something comes over you & you act on it, be sure you do like this mama & take care of it quickly.  With a standard of living like that, I bet she sleeps good at night!  My oldest daughter was standing there when this mama came over to talk to me.  When we got home she said,

“You know that was a very adult thing for her to do that.”

Yes, it was.  What a great example, not only for my kids to see, but for me, too!  Looks like the sports our kids grow up playing are not just character builders for the kids, but for the parents, too!  People never cease to amaze me.  You never really know what they are thinking.  They sometimes say things that you don’t quite expect.  When that happens you really get to know what kind of character those folks have.

I am so glad you stopped by to visit with me today.  I have enjoyed having you here.  It is really cold outside here, in Northeast Mississippi.  I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week.  As for me, I have to be going for now, because I should be washing clothes.
